From today (December 1), 50% reduction in registration fee for domestic cars will end

From December 1, 2024, the policy of reducing 50% of registration fees for domestically produced cars will end. The collection rate will be reapplied according to Decree 10/2022/ND-CP.

End of 50% registration fee reduction from December 1, 2024

On August 29, 2024, the Government issued Decree 109/2024/ND-CP regulating the registration fee for domestically manufactured and assembled automobiles, trailers, semi-trailers and similar vehicles. The 50% reduction in registration fee policy applies from September 1, 2024 to November 30, 2024 to support consumption and stimulate the market.

However, from December 1, 2024, this policy will end. The registration fee for cars will return to the level prescribed in Decree 10/2022/ND-CP and related legal documents.

Car registration fee collection level from December 1, 2024

According to Decree 10/2022/ND-CP, the registration fee for domestically manufactured and assembled cars is applied as follows:

Cars, trailers, semi-trailers and similar vehicles: 2%.

Passenger cars with 9 seats or less:

First time: 10% (can be increased up to 50% according to local decision).

Subsequent times: 2% (applied nationwide).

Pick-up cars and VAN trucks under 950kg: 60% of the fee for cars under 9 seats.

Battery powered electric cars:

Exemption from registration fee for the first 3 years (from March 1, 2022).

Pay 50% of registration fee for gasoline and diesel cars for the next 2 years.

Based on the vehicle quality certificate, the tax authority will determine the appropriate registration fee level.

Registration fee reductions in recent years

2020: From June 28 to December 31 (Decree 70/2020/ND-CP).

2021-2022: From December 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022 (Decree 103/2021/ND-CP).

2023: From July 1 to December 31 (Decree 41/2023/ND-CP).

2024: From September 1 to November 30 (Decree 109/2024/ND-CP).

2024 is the year with the shortest registration fee reduction period in recent years.
