From victim to trafficker of people into a fraudulent company.
The perpetrators used the lure of "easy work, high pay" to deceive and sell many victims into fraudulent companies. Notably, some victims actively participated in the human trafficking ring.
On February 27, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first-instance trial of defendants Lo Thi Vuong (born in 1993), Lo Thi Nham (born in 2004), both residing in Nga My commune, and Vi Thi Lan (born in 1994), residing in Binh Chuan commune (Nghe An province), on charges of human trafficking.
According to the case file, Lo Thi Vuong met a Chinese man named Xi Xi through social media. When he invited her to work in the Bokeo Special Economic Zone (Laos), Vuong agreed.

On March 25, 2022, Vuong went to Laos to meet Xi Xi, who introduced him to Xi Xi as a staff member at a karaoke bar in the Bokeo Special Economic Zone. In February 2023, Vuong contacted Vi Thi Lan and invited her to work in Laos with him. After arriving in Laos, Lan was introduced to Xi Xi by Vuong.
Subsequently, these individuals agreed and coordinated on how to recruit people into the fraudulent company. Xi Xi promised Lan and Vuong a generous commission. Lan then used the tactic of promising easy jobs with high salaries, working on computers, to deceive many people into going to Laos.
Not only did Lan and Vuong trick victims into being sold across the border, but they also enticed some of their victims to contact them in Vietnam to trick and sell other victims. Using this tactic, Lo Thi Nham, initially a victim, actively participated in the human trafficking ring.
Investigators determined that from May 2023 to March 2024, Vi Thi Lan, Lo Thi Vuong, and Lo Thi Nham trafficked 13 victims on 11 separate occasions. In addition, Vuong assisted Nham in selling one person into employment at a fraudulent company.
In this case, Lan illegally profited 105 million VND, Vuong illegally profited 12.4 million VND, and Nham illegally profited 7 million VND.
At the trial, the defendants confessed honestly, admitting to the crimes as charged in the indictment. The defendants admitted to committing the crimes out of greed.
After a comprehensive review of the case, the panel of judges sentenced Vi Thi Lan to 13 years in prison, Lo Thi Vuong to 12 years in prison, and Lo Thi Nham to 6 years in prison.
