Facebook account owner fined for spreading fake gold news
On the afternoon of July 13, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Tien Giang Provincial Police announced that it had issued an administrative fine of VND7.5 million to the owner of the Facebook account “Jerry Hanh”.
Facebook account owner “Jerry Hanh” was fined for violations in the fields of post, telecommunications, radio frequencies, information technology and electronic transactions.
According to the police, on July 6, the owner of the above Facebook account posted information with the content: “Why are you making such a fuss so early in the morning? Regarding the fake gold PN case, anyone who has bought it since Tet should check it. Anyone who buys gold for weddings should check it, I heard that the craftsman was caught… Luckily I don’t have money to buy it.”

This information was found to be false after verification, but was interacted with by many other accounts, causing negative impacts and negatively impacting the business activities of a gold, silver and gemstone trading company in Tien Giang province.
Through investigation, the owner of the Facebook account “Jerry Hanh” admitted to the violation. Due to lack of knowledge of the law and hearing rumors about the incident that occurred at the gold, silver, and gemstone company, he posted the above content with the purpose of increasing the number of interactions to sell cosmetics.
