On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2026), Nghe An Newspaper, Radio and Television had a conversation with Comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy - Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, and President of the Vietnam Youth Union Association of Nghe An province - about the journey of preserving, nurturing, and promoting the identity of Nghe An youth in the new era.
Comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy:The identity of Nghe An youth is, first and foremost, the culmination of revolutionary traditions, a spirit of learning, and a determination to overcome difficulties, all of which have been forged over many generations.
It embodies the spirit of "daring to lead, daring to take on difficult tasks," patriotism coupled with community responsibility, and also the unique culture of compassion and solidarity of the people of Nghe An.

In the current period, these values have not disappeared but are being expressed in very new, practical forms and spreading widely in social life. Over the past five years, the entire province has recorded hundreds of thousands of youth union members participating in volunteer activities, with over 300,000 young people participating in campaigns and programs for the community associated with building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, protecting the environment, and social welfare.
In particular, nearly 2,000 ideas and initiatives have been proposed and gradually implemented, many of which have been effectively applied to practical production and daily life. In addition, youth participation models in digital transformation, innovative entrepreneurship, and economic development are increasingly thriving, not only contributing to increased personal income but also creating jobs and spreading a spirit of daring to think and act within the community.

These figures and results not only reflect the scale and spread of the movement, but more importantly, show a generation of young people in Nghe An who are constantly renewing the way they express their identity - more dynamic, more creative, but still maintaining a spirit of responsibility, compassion, and a desire to contribute to their homeland.
However, preserving identity does not mean "standing still." The important thing is how to adapt that identity to the new context. We believe that today's youth in Nghe An need to possess three key elements: upholding ideals and political integrity; continuously improving knowledge and skills, especially digital capabilities; and nurturing a desire to contribute.

When traditional values are placed on the foundation of modern knowledge and technology, identity is not only preserved but also spreads more powerfully. And that is precisely how the youth of Nghe An confidently step into the new era – not dissolving, but asserting themselves with their own unique "Nghe An spirit."
Comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy:First and foremost, it must be stated that the challenges we face today stem not only from the external environment, but also from the rapid changes in the perceptions, needs, and approaches of young people themselves.
Therefore, the Youth Union's solution should not only focus on propaganda but also on accompanying and creating an environment where young people can experience, train, and grow.
One of the key directions is to innovate educational work and value orientation through relatable and practical models such as "One good news story every day, one beautiful story every week," and youth forums on social media, thereby spreading positive values and helping youth members develop a "filter" against diverse information.

We believe that if we want young people to "preserve their roots," we must bring them back to their origins, not through superficial methods, but through profound experiences. Activities such as "returning to the roots," journeys to historical sites, and programs like "Paying gratitude and showing respect" are organized regularly. More importantly, we need to innovate the content and methods so that each trip is not just a sightseeing trip but becomes a "life lesson," helping young people understand, feel, and reflect on their responsibilities.
The promotion of Nghe An's cultural identity has been effectively implemented, with Nghe An being one of the leading localities nationwide in the "Proud of Our Homeland" campaign. At the same time, youth union members have widely spread the campaign "Every young person should know at least one folk song" (Vi and Giam style), contributing to preserving and revitalizing this heritage in the lives of young people.
Furthermore, the Youth Union focuses on building specific models to help young people both "retain their roots" and develop. These include models such as "Community Digital Technology Teams," "Youth Participation in Administrative Reform," and "Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation"... which not only help young people access new knowledge and master technology, but also directly participate in solving local problems. In addition, movements such as "Creative Youth," "Youth Volunteers," and "Youth Joining Hands to Build New Rural Areas and Civilized Cities" continue to be implemented in a practical and in-depth manner, truly becoming an environment for young people to hone their character, nurture their ideals, and affirm their role.

It can be affirmed that, through the harmonious combination of education, guidance, creating a supportive environment, and providing opportunities, the Youth Union has been helping the youth of Nghe An both maintain core values and proactively adapt to new demands. As a result, each young person not only "preserves their roots" but also gradually asserts themselves, contributing to the continued creation of Nghe An's youth identity in the new era.
Comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy:From the experience of Nghe An, it can be seen that young people have been gradually meeting the requirements set by the General Secretary, not only in the superficial aspects of the movement but also increasingly demonstrating this in the depth of their awareness and actions.
Many young people, with a proactive attitude towards knowledge and technology, are gradually adapting to the new demands of the times. Increasingly, young people are boldly starting businesses, implementing innovative production and business models, applying science and technology, and digital transformation to agriculture, trade, and services. More than 700 youth-led economic models have initially created significant economic value, while also opening up new avenues for development in their hometowns.

Notably, through digital transformation models, young people are not only accessing but are gradually mastering technology, directly participating in solving practical local problems. This is a concrete manifestation of the shift from "learning to know" to "learning to do," and from "participating" to "leading" in some fields.
On another level, the awareness of preserving cultural identity is also being demonstrated by young people through practical actions. Many clubs dedicated to preserving the spoken language, written script, folk songs, folk dances, and traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities are effectively maintained. Through these efforts, cultural identity has become an integral part of young people's lives, choices, and actions.

However, we also frankly acknowledge that the level of responsiveness among different groups of young people is uneven; the ability of some young people to master science and technology, foreign languages, and integration skills remains limited. This necessitates the continued creation of better environments and conditions for the comprehensive development of young people.
In the coming period, to better meet the demands of the new era, we believe that the youth of Nghe An need to prepare themselves with a comprehensive "foundation." First and foremost is political fortitude, a firm ideal of life, and a solid value system, so as not to be swayed by multifaceted influences. Second is knowledge and professional competence, especially digital skills, the ability to adapt to science and technology and the trend of digital transformation. Third is integration skills, including foreign languages, open-mindedness, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.

More importantly, every young person needs to cultivate a desire to contribute and a sense of responsibility towards their homeland and country. When these elements are present, young people will not only keep up with the demands of the times but also be able to proactively contribute and shape the future, fulfilling the expectations that the Party and society have for today's young generation!
Comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy:I hope that every member of the Youth Union in Nghe An will always maintain a strong "root" within themselves: their ideals, their identity, and their love for their homeland. At the same time, they should constantly learn, master knowledge and technology to strive for progress.
Youth only truly has meaning when they dare to think, dare to act, and dare to contribute. When each young person retains the "essence of Nghe An" while also possessing great aspirations, then no matter what field they are in, they will contribute to beautifying the image of their homeland and creating value for society.
