This information comes from Fernando Rizo of Caboodle Games in a recent podcast. According to Rizo, at the First Playable event in Italy, many studios hoping for new deals were unexpectedly rejected or indefinitely postponed by Microsoft. He believes that Microsoft is conducting a comprehensive reassessment of the service's future under its new CEO, Asha Sharma.
The suspension of agreements doesn't mean the service will disappear immediately, as previously signed contracts will still be fulfilled. However, in the long run, players may see fewer new games from third-party partners appearing on the platform compared to its earlier boom period.
The economic equation behind AAA games
The primary reason for this change is believed to be financial pressure. To maintain blockbuster (AAA) titles on Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft reportedly had to pay over $30 million to major publishers to compensate for lost retail revenue. This is a huge sum, especially as subscriber growth is showing signs of slowing down.
The model of bringing major game titles to the service on launch day (Day One) is being questioned for its economic viability. Recently, Microsoft adjusted subscription prices and removed new Call of Duty titles from the "Day One" category for certain service plans to protect direct sales.

Although third-party deals may be frozen, Microsoft's internal (first-party) projects appear unaffected.
