Sentencing of female director who used press name to protect truck
Known as the runner-up of the Miss Vietnam Elegant Lady Photo contest and for many charitable activities in the area, Nguyen Kim Tien (Thai Hoa Town) was prosecuted for protecting trucks in the area to make illegal profits.
On the morning of December 23, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Kim Tien (born in 1965), residing in Hoa Hieu ward, Thai Hoa town (Nghe An) for the crime of "Taking advantage of influence over people in positions of power and authority for personal gain".

Through investigation and verification, it was found that Nguyen Kim Tien was at that time the Director of Kim Tien Trading and Service Joint Stock Company and the Director of Kim Tien Dai Phat Agricultural Cooperative. Kim Tien is often known as a successful businessman and also regularly participates in many charity activities in the area. Not only that, defendant Tien also claimed to be a journalist, taking advantage of his collaborator card and letters of introduction from magazines, Tien claimed to have many relationships and could intervene and influence the authorities.
Accordingly, vehicle owners must pay Tien a certain amount of money to have Kim Tien put his company logo on them. When driving on the road, if the vehicle owners are arrested, Tien will ask for forgiveness or a lighter sentence for the drivers.
According to the case file, from October 2023 to January 2024, Nguyen Kim Tien received a total of 1 billion 304 million VND from 4 vehicle owners. Specifically, he received 105 million VND from Nguyen Van N., 291 million VND from Nguyen Quang L., 155 million VND from Nguyen Van V. and 753 million VND from Nguyen Manh H. At the trial, the defendant confessed that he had spent all of the above money for personal use.
At the trial, the representative of the Procuracy maintained the view of prosecuting the defendant Tien for the crime of “Taking advantage of influence over people in positions of power for personal gain”. Accordingly, the Procuracy proposed to sentence the defendant to 36 to 42 months in prison.
During the investigation, the defendant confessed honestly. In addition, during his time living in the locality, Kim Tien had many achievements and certificates of merit for his contributions, so he was considered a mitigating circumstance. It is known that immediately after being arrested, the defendant mobilized his family to pay 500 million VND.
Having the last word, defendant Tien also said that because he still lacked awareness of the crime, he hoped the court would consider his achievements and contributions and give him the lightest sentence possible so that he could soon return to contribute to society.
The panel of judges decided to sentence Nguyen Kim Tien to 39 months in prison for the above crime. At the same time, they ordered the collection of 804 million VND to the State budget.
