Death sentence for man who burned creditor's body in flower garden

On September 21, the Hanoi People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Trieu Quang Trinh (born in 1984, in Dan Phuong district, Hanoi) prosecuted for the crimes of "Murder" and "RobberyThe victim is Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (in Ha Dong district, Hanoi).

According to the indictment of the Hanoi People's Procuracy, in 2014, Trinh met Ms. Hoa - a colleague at the same old company.

During the process of getting to know each other, the two sides did not have any conflicts, only occasionally meeting each other because they went to work together. Due to business losses, Trinh later asked to borrow money from Ms. Hoa.

At first, Trinh asked to borrow 40 million VND from Ms. Hoa, with an interest rate of 12 million VND per month, and Ms. Hoa agreed. When receiving the money, Trinh had his interest "cut" for the first month, so he only received 28 million VND. The reason for accepting the loan with a high interest rate, Trinh explained, was because he needed money to pay off debt.

In July 2019, Ms. Hoa informed Trinh that the interest had reached 37 million VND. In the following months, because she could not pay the interest to Ms. Hoa, Trinh was threatened by Ms. Hoa, who called to demand payment, and even beat her up once, forcing her to pay the principal and interest of about 230 million VND. From then on, Trinh had the intention of killing Ms. Hoa when she received threatening phone calls.

On the afternoon of March 6, 2020, after making an appointment to meet Ms. Hoa, Trinh brought a hammer to meet Ms. Hoa on Ngo Quyen Street (Xuan La Ward, Ha Dong District). When they met, Trinh pretended to invite Ms. Hoa to go out and took her to Nguyen Trai Flower Garden (Ha Dong District) to find an opportunity to attack.

Here, seeing that it was still light and there were many people passing by, Trinh lied and said he was going to get money and then took his motorbike to go around Ha Dong district, while Ms. Hoa sat waiting on a bench in the flower garden. At around 7 p.m. the same day, Trinh returned to the bench and continued talking with Ms. Hoa.

At this time, Trinh saw that there were no people around, so he used a hammer to hit Ms. Hoa's head many times, causing the victim to collapse. Seeing that Ms. Hoa was still breathing, Trinh used his hands to strangle her for about 5 minutes, causing the victim to lose consciousness. Thinking that Ms. Hoa was dead, Trinh took off her necklace and earrings, then carried the victim to the grass on the bank of the Nhue River, covered her with a tree, and left.

Upon returning home, fearing that his murder of Ms. Hoa would be discovered, Trinh returned to the scene and burned Ms. Hoa's body with gasoline to destroy evidence. On March 9, 2020, Trinh was arrested by the Hanoi City Police Department.

At the trial, the defendant Trinh admitted to the above crime. The panel of judges affirmed that the crime committed by the defendant Trinh was particularly serious in committing a brutal crime. Just to avoid paying the debt, the defendant committed the murder and burned the body.disposeThe panel of judges found that defendant Trinh was no longer capable of being educated or reformed, so they decided to permanently remove the defendant from social life.

With the above verdict, the People's Court sentenced defendant Trinh to death for two crimes of murder and robbery.
