Due to ongoing renovations at My Dinh Stadium and scheduling conflicts with major music events, the Vietnamese national team may have to find a new home stadium for their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying match.

The Vietnamese national team is facing the possibility of not being able to play at My Dinh National Stadium in their match against Malaysia on March 31, 2026. This is a crucial match in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, where home advantage plays a key role for the team.

Risks arising from renovation progress and non-football related events.

The main reason for this situation is that My Dinh Stadium is currently undergoing comprehensive renovations starting in September 2025. The project focuses on upgrading the turf to high-end European standards and modernizing the automatic irrigation system. According to the plan, the upgrade work will be completed in March 2026, just in time for the match.

However, a large-scale music event scheduled to be held here on March 14, 2026, changed the situation. The two-week period following the event was deemed insufficient for the pitch to recover and reach the ideal condition for an international football match. This forced the parties involved to consider finding an alternative stadium.

Backup home game options

In the event that My Dinh Stadium does not meet the requirements for hosting the event, the Vietnam Football Federation will consider other options in the northern region. Stadiums that meet international competition standards include:

  • Thien Truong Stadium (Ninh Binh):With a capacity of 30,000 seats, this is considered one of the most beautiful stadiums in the North, having previously hosted the 31st SEA Games.
  • Lach Tray Stadium (Hai Phong):Modern infrastructure with a capacity of 30,000 spectators, regularly hosting top-tier matches.
  • Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho) and Thai Nguyen Stadium:The venues, which have been recently upgraded or inaugurated, have experience hosting professional tournaments.

Previously, in 2025, the Vietnamese national team rotated between Go Dau, Thong Nhat, and Viet Tri stadiums. Changing the venue will undoubtedly affect the team's preparation plans, especially since Malaysia is a direct competitor for a spot in the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
