The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the strength of the US dollar against six other major currencies, rose 0.43% to 101.21. The dollar strengthened after Fed Chairman Jerome Powell refused to cut interest rates significantly.
The strengthening dollar has affected currency markets, reducing the value of sterling against the dollar, reflecting a slowdown in UK manufacturing in September.
Despite the decline, the pound remained near recent highs, down 0.4% to $1.33280.
The pound had its strongest quarter in two years last quarter, hitting its highest level against the dollar in more than two years.
Investors are waiting for the US jobs report, scheduled to be released on October 4, to assess the US economic situation and the Fed's next policy direction.
In the UK, the manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index remained unchanged in September at 51.5.
British manufacturers are worried about the government's new budget and the Bank of England's possible one-time interest rate cut between now and the end of the year.
Markets are awaiting the budget on October 30 under the leadership of the new finance minister, Rachel Reeves. There are concerns that the budget could have a negative impact on the UK economy.
The pound is stable against the euro, but the European Central Bank could ease monetary policy, putting pressure on the euro.
UK inflation could prompt the Bank of England to ease monetary policy more slowly than expected. It is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points next month, but no further cuts until the end of the year.
