Today's USD exchange rate (October 30, 2024): The State Bank of Vietnam announced that the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the USD remains stable at 24,252 VND. The US Dollar Index (DXY) decreased by 0.05%, to 104.27.

In the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the value of the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), fell 0.05% to 104.27.

In recent trading, the US dollar reached a three-month high against the yen, but showed little movement against other major currencies. Traders are awaiting developments ahead of next week's US election and several upcoming key economic data releases.

In Japan, the ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Komeito Party lost its majority in the recent general election, winning only 215 out of 465 seats in the Lower House, far short of the 233 and 288 seats targeted in the previous term, respectively. This result has caused political turmoil and affected the yen.

The US dollar rose 0.12% to 153.47 yen. The Bank of Japan is expected to keep interest rates unchanged when it announces its policy decision tomorrow (October 31).

Key data releases this week include the US core personal consumption expenditures price index for September, a key inflation measure from the Federal Reserve (Fed), which will be released tomorrow, along with employment reports.

Currently, the US dollar is on track to record its biggest monthly gain against major currencies in over two years, and is holding at a near three-month high. Recent data shows the US labor market is cooling down, with job numbers falling to their lowest level in over three years in September.

Conversely, US consumer confidence rose to its highest level in October thanks to improvements in the labor market.

This situation suggests that the recovery of the US economy, coupled with the market's bet on Republican candidate Donald Trump winning the upcoming election, has supported the USD and boosted Treasury bond yields.

The DXY index has risen 3.6% since the beginning of October, marking its best monthly gain since April 2022.

Meanwhile, the British pound rose slightly by 0.26%, reaching 1.3006. Finance Minister Rachel Reeves and Prime Minister Keir Starmer have stressed the need for tough fiscal measures to narrow the UK's budget deficit.

The euro was virtually unchanged at $1.0815 and fell 0.27% against the British pound. The Chinese yuan also dropped to its lowest level against the dollar since mid-August.
