In the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY) measuring the value of the USD against 6 major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) decreased by 0.05% to 104.27.

The dollar hit a three-month high against the yen in recent trading, but was little changed against other major currencies as traders await developments ahead of next week's U.S. election and some key economic data.

In Japan, the ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Komeito Party lost its majority in the recent general election, winning only 215 out of 465 seats in the House of Representatives, much lower than the target of 233 seats and 288 seats in the previous term. This result caused political turmoil and affected the yen.

The dollar rose 0.12 percent to 153.47 yen. The Bank of Japan is expected to keep interest rates unchanged when it announces its policy decision tomorrow (October 31).

Important data this week includes the US core personal consumption expenditures price index for September, the Federal Reserve's key inflation gauge, due out tomorrow, along with jobs reports.

The dollar is now on track for its biggest monthly gain against major currencies in more than two years, and is holding near a three-month high. Recent data shows the US labor market is cooling, with job creation falling to its lowest level in more than three years in September.

In contrast, US consumer confidence rose to an all-time high in October thanks to improvements in the labor market.

This situation shows that the recovery of the US economy, along with the market's bets on the possibility of Republican candidate Donald Trump winning the upcoming election, has supported the USD and increased Treasury bond yields.

The DXY index has increased 3.6% since the beginning of October, marking its best month of growth since April 2022.

Meanwhile, the pound edged up 0.26% to 1.3006. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and Prime Minister Keir Starmer have stressed the need for tough fiscal measures to narrow the UK's budget deficit.

The euro was little changed at $1.0815 and down 0.27% against the pound. The Chinese yuan also fell to its lowest level against the dollar since mid-August.
