USD exchange rate today, August 9th: The US dollar has risen for the third consecutive session in the international payment basket. The State Bank of Vietnam announced that the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the USD increased by 12 dong, currently at 24,262 dong.
Today's USD exchange rate worldwide
In the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the fluctuations of the US dollar against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), rose 0.22%, reaching 103.19.
The US dollar strengthened in recent trading, reflecting optimism from the US labor market report which showed a sharper-than-expected drop in jobless claims.
The U.S. Department of Labor said the number of initial jobless claims fell to a seasonally adjusted 233,000, easing concerns about a labor market slowdown.
The US dollar strengthened against the yen, particularly after the Japanese currency depreciated significantly during a volatile trading week, reflecting shifts in interest rate differentials and Japan's monetary policy.
The yen weakened, falling 0.37% to 147.205, continuing its 1.6% decline from the previous day, following the announcement by the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan that interest rates would remain unchanged in the short term.
Investors' attention is currently focused on the upcoming US inflation report for July and statements from Fed Chairman Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole Conference at the end of August, which could influence investment decisions.

On the domestic market, at the beginning of trading on August 9th, the State Bank of Vietnam announced that the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the US Dollar increased by 12 dong, currently standing at 24,262 dong.

The USD exchange rate on the free market reversed its upward trend this morning compared to the previous session. In Hanoi, at 6:01 AM, the USD was trading (buy - sell) at around 25,572 – 25,652 VND/USD, a sharp decrease of 93 VND/USD in the buying rate and 83 VND/USD in the selling rate compared to the previous trading session.
* The EUR exchange rate at the State Bank of Vietnam's exchange desk has slightly increased, currently standing at: 25,187 VND – 27,838 VND (buying and selling rates).
