Vietnam U16 won ticket to 2018 AFC U16 Championship

After the final qualifying round of 9 groups took place yesterday afternoon and night (September 24), 14 names winning tickets to the 2018 AFC U16 finals were determined, including Vietnam U16.

There are a total of 45 teams participating in the 2018 AFC U16 Championship qualifiers, divided into 10 groups. The 10 first-placed teams and the 5 best second-placed teams from the 10 groups will qualify for the finals. The 16th ticket belongs to the host team of the finals next year, U16 Malaysia.

Due to the UAE's withdrawal at the last minute, when considering the five best runners-up, the results between the runners-up and the 4th-placed team (for groups of 4 teams), and the results between the runners-up and the 4th and 5th-placed teams (for groups of 5 teams) will not be counted.

Vietnam U16 won ticket to 2018 AFC U16 Championship

At the end of the qualifying round, U16 Vietnam ranked 2nd in Group I, with 6 points and a goal difference of +10. However, the 9-0 victory over U16 Mongolia will not be counted. Meanwhile, U16 Australia won the group with 3 wins and won a direct ticket to the final round next year.

After 9 groups finished the qualifying round yesterday afternoon and evening (September 24), coach Vu Hong Viet and his team were still in the top 5 second-placed teams with the best results. Therefore, U16 Vietnam has won a ticket to the final round next year.

Although Group H still includes South Korea, China, Myanmar and the Philippines, which will compete from September 25-29, with the 5th place in the group of 6 second-placed teams, U16 Vietnam is sure to qualify. Because the host of the 2018 AFC U16 Championship, Malaysia, also ranked second in the qualifying round, the Organizing Committee will take the 6 second-placed teams with the best results.

The 2018 AFC U16 Championship will take place in Malaysia from September 20 to October 7, 2018. The four semi-finalists will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil.
