Vietnam U16 team qualifies for the 2018 AFC U16 Championship.
Following the final round of qualifying matches in the 9 groups held yesterday afternoon and evening (September 24th), 14 teams have secured their tickets to the 2018 AFC U16 Championship finals, including Vietnam U16.
A total of 45 teams participated in the 2018 AFC U16 Championship qualifiers, divided into 10 groups. The 10 group winners and the 5 best second-placed teams from the 10 groups qualified for the finals. The 16th spot went to the host nation of next year's finals, Malaysia U16.
Because the UAE withdrew from the tournament at the last minute, when considering the 5 best-performing second-placed teams, the results between the second-placed team and the fourth-placed team (for groups of 4 teams), and the results between the second-placed team and the fourth and fifth-placed teams (for groups of 5 teams) will not be counted.

At the end of the qualifying round, Vietnam U16 finished second in Group I with 6 points and a goal difference of +10. However, their 9-0 victory against Mongolia U16 will not be counted. Meanwhile, Australia U16 won the group with three consecutive wins and secured a direct ticket to the finals next year.
After the qualifying rounds for the nine groups were completed yesterday afternoon and evening (September 24th), Coach Vu Hong Viet's team remained among the top five second-placed teams with the best performance. Therefore, the Vietnam U16 team secured a ticket to the finals next year.
Although Group H, consisting of South Korea, China, Myanmar, and the Philippines, will still be playing from September 25-29, Vietnam U16, having finished 5th among the 6 second-placed teams, is guaranteed to qualify. Since Malaysia, the host of the 2018 AFC U16 Championship, also finished second in their qualifying group, the organizers will select the 6 best second-placed teams from each group.
The 2018 AFC U16 Championship will take place in Malaysia from September 20th to October 7th, 2018. The four teams that reach the semi-finals will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil.
