Yesterday (May 8), coach Ludovic Batelli announced the list of 21 French players who will go to Korea to participate in the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup. This list does not include Maxime Lopez of Marseille and Kylian Mbappe of Monaco.
Mbappe is only 18 years old, but is already Monaco's main striker. In Ligue 1, he played 26 matches, scored 14 goals, and contributed greatly to helping the principality team top the scoreboard.Meanwhile, in the Champions League, the striker born in 1998 scored five goals in nine matches, helping Monaco advance to the semi-finals.
Coach Ludovic Batelli tried every way to put Mbappe on the French U20 list but failed."Didier Deschamps wants to keep Mbappe, that's understandable," coach Ludovic Batelli shared with L'Équipe in a disappointed voice.
Coach Deschamps is expected to call Mbappe up for the French national team to play in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and two friendly matches against Paraguay and England.
During the announcement of the U20 France squad, coach Ludovic Batelli was very disappointed when he could not have the services of a series of key players because the clubs playing in the national championship refused to release them.
“Clubs have their rights. We don’t want a fierce confrontation. The sad ones are the players,” said coach Ludovic Batelli.
At the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup, U20 France is in group E with U20 Vietnam, U20 Honduras and U20 New Zealand.
