Vietnam U23 drew with Palestine U23.
In their final dress rehearsal for the 2018 AFC U23 Asian Championship, the Vietnam U23 team secured a draw against Palestine U23 this afternoon.
In this afternoon's match against U23 Palestine, coach Park Hang Seo surprised everyone with the starting lineup of the Vietnam U23 team, with striker Nguyen Cong Phuong on the bench and striker Ha Duc Chinh playing as the furthest forward. In goal, goalkeeper Van Hoang was given the opportunity to start from the beginning.
Facing a U23 Palestine team considered to be on equal footing, U23 Vietnam confidently deployed their game plan. Both teams played defensively in their own half, resulting in few truly dangerous situations near each other's goal throughout the first half.
Accordingly, in the first half, the Vietnam U23 team had two dangerous situations towards the opponent's goal. Notably, there was a shot in the 35th minute by Duc Chinh. From a precise through pass by Quang Hai, Ha Duc Chinh faced the Palestine goalkeeper but couldn't beat the last line of defense.

On the other side of the pitch, the Palestine U23 team had three dangerous opportunities towards goalkeeper Van Hoang's goal. Notably, they narrowly avoided conceding a goal in the 43rd minute. In this instance, a Palestine U23 player crossed the ball for a teammate to head it, but the ball went weakly and posed no difficulty for the Vietnam U23 goalkeeper.
During the halftime break, coach Park Hang Seo and the U23 Vietnam coaching staff reminded the players to focus on defense and organize man-marking from a distance.
In the second half, the Vietnam U23 team made six substitutions: goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung, Thanh Chung, Xuan Manh, Thai Quy, Hong Duy, and Chau Ngoc Quang. The coaching staff's instructions helped the Vietnam U23 team quickly create dangerous situations towards the opponent's goal.
In the 50th minute, following an accurate pass from Xuan Manh on the right wing, Ha Duc Chinh controlled the ball with his chest before unleashing a decisive shot to score the opening goal for Vietnam U23.
A few minutes later, Trong Dai was brought on to replace Xuan Truong, and the captain's armband was given to center-back Bui Tien Dung. Despite creating a fairly solid defense in their own half, in the 67th minute, Vietnam U23 conceded an equalizer to Palestine U23 after a defensive error, making the score 1-1.
In the 74th minute, coach Park Hang Seo continued his personnel experiments by bringing on Cong Phuong and Ngoc Quang. A few minutes later, Vietnam U23 was awarded a free kick after Thai Quy was fouled. In this situation, Doan Van Hau took the free kick directly towards the Palestine U23 goal, but the ball went over the crossbar.
In the remaining minutes, despite their best efforts, neither team managed to score another goal. The 1-1 score remained until the final whistle.
