The UAE's air defense system destroyed 12 ballistic missiles and several UAVs amid escalating tensions. It has been reported that the Iron Dome system was deployed.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Defence has just announced the successful interception of a large-scale attack aimed at its territory. This latest development has heightened concerns about regional security and efforts to maintain peace in the Middle East.

Details of the attack and damage in Fujairah

According to official information from the UAE Ministry of Defence, the national air defense system neutralized a total of 19 targets, including 12 ballistic missiles, 3 cruise missiles, and 4 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). All of these attack vehicles were identified as being launched from Iran.

Earlier, Fujairah officials said a drone attack targeting an oil port in the area had caused a fire. The incident resulted in minor injuries to three Indian nationals. This is one of the UAE's most important economic infrastructures, playing a key role in the region's energy supply chain.

Questions arise regarding the involvement of the Iron Dome system.

Notably, military sources and reports from Axios indicate that Israel's Iron Dome air defense system may have been used to assist the UAE in intercepting these targets. Israel's secret deployment of this system to the UAE reflects the increasingly close defense cooperation between the two countries since the normalization of diplomatic relations.

The combination of the UAE's air defense network and interceptor technology from Israel demonstrates a new security architecture emerging in the Gulf region to counter threats from long-range missiles and UAVs.

International reaction and warnings from Iran.

Immediately following the incident, Qatar and Saudi Arabia voiced strong support for the UAE. The Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the targeting of civilian and economic facilities and pledged full solidarity with the UAE in measures to protect its sovereignty and territorial security.

Conversely, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a stern warning to the US and the UAE. He stressed that the parties should not get bogged down in a military "quagmire" in the Strait of Hormuz and asserted that there is no military solution to the current crisis. Araghchi also stated that negotiations were showing signs of progress thanks to Pakistan's mediation, while criticizing US intervention plans as a dead end.

The incident occurred shortly after clashes between US and Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz, putting the regional ceasefire agreement on high alert.
