The Achilles Brigade of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces has neutralized a modern Russian Nebo-M radar station in the border area between Belgorod and Kursk.

The Achilles Brigade of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces recently carried out a drone attack on a Russian Nebo-M radar station. The target was located in the Ukolovo settlement, situated at the junction of the Belgorod and Kursk regions, approximately 100km from the national border.

Details of the attack and technical damage.

The video, posted by the Achilles unit, shows the attack directly targeting the most sensitive hardware of the radar complex. This is a vulnerable but crucial element in the system's operation. The damage is estimated to render the radar station nearly inoperable.

Military analysts believe that restoring the Nebo-M system will be extremely complex and costly. In particular, given the tightening international sanctions, Russia faces significant difficulties in importing the necessary electronic components to repair such high-tech equipment.

Combat capabilities of the 55Zh6M Nebo-M radar system

The 55Zh6M Nebo-M is a multi-band mobile radar system designed to detect and track aerodynamic and ballistic targets at medium to high altitudes. This system is capable of determining three target coordinates with high accuracy.

The Nebo-M's structure comprises multiple interconnected components, with each radar station mounted on a separate automotive chassis:

  • RLM-M:Radar operates in the meter wave band.
  • RLM-D:Radar operates in the decimeter wavelength band.
  • RLM-S:Radar operates in the centimeter wavelength band.

According to Russian statements, the Nebo-M is capable of detecting objects with small radar cross-sections and stealth technology. Its detection range for conventional aircraft is 500-600 km, while ballistic targets can be detected at distances up to 1,500 km.

Target detection capability by type

Target typeDetection range (km)
Conventional aircraft500 - 600
Ballistic targetUp to 1,500
Stealth aircraft200 - 400
UAVs and cruise missiles50 - 150

Previously, soldiers from the Achilles Brigade also achieved success in attacking the Kasta-2E radar station located approximately 80km deep within Russian territory. The continuous neutralization of long-range surveillance systems demonstrates Ukraine's effective use of UAVs in blinding enemy air defenses.
