Ukraine provides combat data to help the US upgrade its Patriot PAC-3 interceptor missiles.
Data on coordinated Russian attacks was provided by Kyiv to Lockheed Martin to improve the kinetic interception technology on the PAC-3 variant.
Ukraine is providing detailed data on Russian attacks to US arms manufacturers to support the upgrade of the Patriot PAC-3 interceptor missile. This information is crucial for adjusting defense technology in response to the constantly changing tactics of long-range attacks.
Optimizing interception capabilities based on battlefield realities.
Business Insider quoted Yegor Chernev, Deputy Chairman of the National Security and Defense Committee of the Ukrainian Parliament, as saying that Kyiv is transferring operational data to Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of the PAC-3 missile. The goal of this operation is to help the manufacturer improve the algorithms and response capabilities of the Patriot system against modern threats.
According to Chernev, Russia is constantly adjusting its tactics by combining ballistic and cruise missiles, using decoys, and changing flight trajectories flexibly. Understanding these attack patterns allows Lockheed Martin to accelerate software and hardware upgrades to counter emerging threats.

Technical specifications and operating mechanism of the Patriot PAC-3
Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) is the most advanced upgraded version of the Patriot system, focusing on the task of destroying short- and medium-range ballistic missiles. Unlike traditional air defense missiles, PAC-3 uses a "hit-to-kill" mechanism.
Instead of using fragmentation warheads to create a kill zone, the PAC-3 destroys targets through direct kinetic impact. This method ensures the complete destruction of the enemy missile's warhead, especially weapons of mass destruction, while minimizing the risk of debris falling to the ground.
- Interception range:Estimated range is 35-45 km depending on the variant.
- Maximum height:Approximately 20 km.
- Target of combat:Ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
In addition, the improved PAC-3 MSE (Missile Segment Enhancement) version offers a longer range and superior maneuverability thanks to its twin propulsion system and larger control fins. The compact size of the PAC-3 also allows a single Patriot launcher to carry up to 16 missiles, four times more than the previous PAC-2 version.
Challenges related to international supply and support.
Despite being a top-tier defense system, Ukraine is facing a severe shortage of interceptor missiles. Recent reports indicate that several Patriot launchers have become empty, creating opportunities for Russian attacks to inflict heavy damage on its energy infrastructure.
To address this situation, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced after a meeting in Ramstein that Ukraine could receive an additional 35 PAC-3 missiles. Lockheed Martin also confirmed it is increasing production to meet the urgent needs of its allies and international partners.
