According to RIA Novosti, the Belarusian state news agency Belta reported that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced on July 13th that tensions on the border with Ukraine had been eased following Ukraine's troop withdrawal.

The Belarusian leader stated: "After a number of missions, Ukraine has withdrawn its armed forces and additional troops that they had previously moved to our border."

President Lukashenko also ordered the withdrawal of troops from the southern border, and their return to their permanent bases.

"The situation has stabilized. And our troops need to withdraw. To make them understand that we will not fight and will not concentrate our armed forces on the border with Ukraine, except for the Special Operations Forces," President Lukashenko explained.

Lukashenko stated that there are currently no "sudden" developments in Ukraine, and expressed hope that no such situation will occur.

"No matter how suspicious they may look at us, no matter how much they oppose us, we are not enemies of the Ukrainian people," the Belarusian leader emphasized.

According to him, recent events have shown that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine is "possible."

In late June 2024, the State Border Committee of Belarus announced that it was taking additional measures to protect its border with Ukraine due to information about the presence of fighters from the Russian Volunteer Corps near the border. Additionally, border guards discovered a cache containing 2 kg of explosives and components for making improvised bombs.

Later, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces - First Deputy Minister of Defense of Belarus, Pavel Muraveiko, said that Minsk was observing “unfounded and inexplicable activity” in the border area.

Accordingly, the Ukrainian armed forces deployed special forces units to the city of Ovruch in the direction of Zhitomir. The military commander later explained that, with such forces, the Kiev authorities were able to "saturate" Belarusian territory with sabotage and reconnaissance groups.

On July 2nd, President Lukashenko announced that the country's Air Force and Air Defense Forces were on high alert. Additionally, border guards were deployed to reinforce border security along the entire border line, and Special Operations Forces were also deployed.
