Earlier, the Axios news portal cited sources as saying that Mr. Zelenskiy called on US senators, who recently visited Kiev, not to wait for an escalation to impose sanctions against Russia, but to introduce restrictive measures now.

In an interview with the Washington Post, President Zelenskiy said that Russia is a country with many reserves, so it can withstand sanctions.

“Once you impose even tough sanctions, the Russian Federation will look at you and say, ‘Look, we can handle this.’ I think that is wrong. I am in favor of imposing sanctions now.”

President Zelenskiy said

Russia has repeatedly rejected Western and Ukrainian accusations that Moscow is engaged in "aggressive actions." Russia claims that it does not threaten anyone and does not intend to attack anyone, and that statements about "Russian aggression" are used as a pretext for deploying additional NATO military equipment near Russian borders. The Russian Foreign Ministry previously noted that Western rhetoric about "Russian aggression" and the opportunity to help Kiev defend itself is absurd and dangerous.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and Western countries have recently expressed concern over allegations that Russia has increased its "aggressive actions" near the Ukrainian border. Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was moving troops within Russian territory and at its own discretion. According to Peskov, this does not threaten anyone and does not concern anyone./.
