The M1 Abrams main battle tanks that the US pledged to provide to Kyiv are unlikely to arrive in Ukraine in 2023.

According to Defense News, last weekend, US Army Secretary Christine Wormuth stated that the US military is still discussing options for transferring M1 Abrams battle tanks to Kyiv. However, these tanks may not appear on the front lines in 2023, a disappointing development for the Ukrainian armed forces.

"We are still looking for the quickest way to send tanks to Ukraine, but this is not a matter of weeks or two months. We now have options that take less than two years, or at least a year and a half," Wormuth said.

According to the US Army Secretary, it is difficult to conclude whether Abrams tanks can arrive in Ukraine by the end of 2023. "Logistical plans are still being calculated, many details remain unresolved," added Wormuth.

According to some U.S. military officials, options regarding the supply of Abrams tanks will be presented to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who will then report to President Joe Biden for a final decision.

According to military experts, modern Western tanks could bolster Ukraine's defenses against potential Russian spring offensives. However, given the current situation, it is highly unlikely that American Abrams tanks will reach the front lines before then.
