Ukraine decides to raise prices for Russian oil transit

For the second time this year, Ukraine wants to increase the cost of transporting Russian oil via the Druzhba pipeline to Eastern European countries, Russian media reported, citing Argus and its sources.

"Ukrainian pipeline operator Ukrtransnafta intends to increase the tariff for the transportation of Russian oil through the main Druzhba oil pipeline through the territory of Ukraine from April 1, which means doubling the fee to 27.2 euros per ton. The increase in tariffs in Kiev is explained by the costs of restoring the oil transportation infrastructure destroyed during the hostilities," the newspaper writes.

According to the newspaper, by this way Kiev wants to force Eastern European countries, primarily Hungary, to give up buying Russian oil.

If the transit tariff increase is approved, it will be the second such increase this year, the newspaper noted. Previously, the duty was increased by 18.3% to 13.6 euros per tonne.

Transneft, which supplies oil via Druzhba, told the publication that the company is aware of Ukraine's intention to revise transit prices, but the specific parameters and timing of the increase remain unknown.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine wanted to increase the cost of transporting Russian oil via Druzhba to Hungary and Slovakia by 2.1 euros per ton in 2023 to 13.6 euros.

The "Druzhba" oil pipeline starts from Samara province, passes through Bryansk and then branches into two sections: northern (through the territory of Belarus, Poland, Germany) and southern (through the territory of Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary).
