Ukraine has just received PAC-3 interceptor missiles from Germany to address ammunition shortages and enhance its ballistic missile interception capabilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed the receipt of PAC-3 interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system, delivered by Germany. This is the result of agreements reached within the framework of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group (Ramstein) in February, aimed at helping Kyiv counter successive cruise and ballistic missile attacks.

Details of the delivery of 35 PAC-3 missiles.

According to the Ukrinform news agency, the handover of these anti-aircraft missiles was completed on March 10, just before the meeting between President Zelensky and the Speaker of the German Parliament, Julia Klockner. Der Spiegel magazine reported that Ukraine is expected to receive a total of 35 PAC-3 interceptor missiles in this batch.

Specifically, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius reached an agreement with European allies to supply Ukraine with 30 PAC-3 missiles, in addition to five missiles drawn from Berlin's direct reserves. In Kyiv, Ms. Klockner affirmed that Germany remains a priority for military support to Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.

Efforts to compensate for the shortage of anti-aircraft ammunition.

The Patriot system, particularly the US-made PAC-3 interceptor missile variant, is considered the most important technical means of intercepting high-speed ballistic targets. However, Ukrainian officials have repeatedly warned of a serious shortage of this ammunition in the face of increasing long-range attacks.

President Zelensky cited comparative figures on the intensity of air defense weapon use worldwide. According to him, in just three days of recent fighting in the Middle East, more than 800 Patriot missiles were fired. This number is greater than the total number of Patriot missiles Ukraine has received since the start of the conflict.

UAV technology cooperation and international support

Besides missile defense systems, Ukraine and Germany also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Kyiv is currently promoting cooperation with partners to develop a domestic defense industry, leveraging combat experience and domestically produced weapons.

Notably, Ukraine has also expressed its willingness to support the U.S. and other international partners on other security issues. In an interview with The New York Times, President Zelensky revealed that Ukraine has deployed a team of experts along with interceptor UAVs to help protect U.S. military bases in Jordan from potential retaliatory attacks.
