"We demand that Kosovo immediately release the Russian citizen and punish those responsible for this obvious mistake," the Russian embassy in Serbia said on May 28, referring to an employee of a UN mission in Kosovo who was arrested during an anti-smuggling operation by the country's police.
The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier accused Kosovo of a provocation by arresting 13 Serbs in northern towns, where the population is predominantly Serb. The Serbian government ordered its security forces to be on maximum alert after Kosovo launched the operation. Kosovo's move comes amid escalating tensions in the north of the country, which remains largely outside the government's control and has pledged allegiance to Serbia.

A bloody massacre targeting children occurred on the morning of May 28 in Kawasaki City, Japan. According to the police, as of 3:00 p.m. on May 28 (local time), the number of victims had reached 18, including 16 students. A girl about 12 years old and a 39-year-old man, believed to be the father of one of the victims, died at the hospital. The suspect, a man about 50 years old, committed suicide and died after being taken to the hospital.
The massacre occurred at around 7:40 a.m. on a residential street about 250 meters from Noborito Station. One woman and two other girls are in critical condition. The children are all students at Caritas Elementary School, a private Catholic school in the city.

Ukraine will seek international status for the Kerch Strait, which connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, Deputy Foreign Minister Yelena Zerkal said. “It is very important to ensure that the Kerch Strait has international status. It will solve many outstanding problems,” Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Yelena Zerkal said in a statement to Novoye radio late on May 27.
Speaking about the recent ruling of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) regarding the incident between Russia and Ukraine in the Kerch Strait in late 2018, Ms. Zerkal said that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has prepared a note to send to the Russian Foreign Ministry, in which, it requests that the Russian side respond when and where Ukraine can receive the naval ships and sailors that the Russian side is holding.
Israel agrees to negotiate maritime border with Lebanon

Israel has agreed to join US-brokered talks with Lebanon on demarcating its maritime border, Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said on May 27. The announcement came after a meeting between Steinitz and US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield. The demarcation of the maritime border will impact both sides’ offshore energy exploration and exploitation projects.
The US is mediating the border dispute between Israel and Lebanon, through two consecutive visits by Mr. Satterfield to promote discussions on border demarcation. The US has previously acted as a mediator between the two sides on this issue but without achieving any positive results.

The cost of building this private border wall was donated by supporters of US President Donald Trump, who declared they would help the President build "a big, beautiful wall" on the US-Mexico border to the best of their ability.
The private border fence, located at the intersection of New Mexico and Texas with the Mexican state of Chihuahua, is a gathering point for migrants, mainly from Central American countries, to cross into the United States. The US Border Patrol said that 98,052 people were detained in El Paso, Texas, for illegally entering the US from October last year to April this year.
