Evidence of AIM-120C-8 missiles appearing in Dnipro suggests that Ukraine possesses a modern AMRAAM variant for deployment from F-16 fighter jets and the NASAMS system.

Newly discovered fragments of an Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) suggest that Ukraine is likely using the AIM-120C-8 variant. This is considered one of the most modern and capable versions of this weapon in the Western arsenal supplied to Kyiv.

Fragments of an AIM-120C-8 missile were found in the city of Dnipro in central Ukraine following a Russian airstrike. Although the specific target and exact timing of the incident are unclear, the appearance of this type of weapon has attracted considerable attention from international military observers.

Advances in air defense and air combat technology.

The military website War Zone notes that this appears to be the first confirmed evidence that Ukraine possesses AIM-120C-8 missiles. Previously, reports mainly noted the presence of older AIM-120B variants with more limited capabilities.

The AIM-120C-8 variant offers significant improvements over its predecessors, such as the AIM-120A/B. Specifically, this missile series boasts powerful upgrades in its guidance system, its resistance to modern electronic countermeasures, and its effective range. Experts believe that equipping Ukraine with the AIM-120C-8 enhances its survivability and interception effectiveness in a complex electronic warfare environment.

Regarding technical specifications, although the US military has not disclosed details, the AIM-120C-8 is believed to have a maximum range of 120 km to 160 km. This performance depends on the launch platform, whether deployed from F-16 fighter jets or the NASAMS ground-based air defense systems currently in service with the Ukrainian military.

Related combat developments on the battlefield

Alongside the appearance of the new missiles, the air combat situation remains tense. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed a total of 186 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a single night. These UAV attacks were reportedly aimed at various areas of Russian territory, including the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

In the Krasnodar region, a fire broke out at an oil refinery in Tuapse. The cause was determined to be debris from a drone falling onto the facility. Meanwhile, in the Bryansk region, a Ukrainian drone attack struck a car, injuring a man.

Ukraine's deployment of the AIM-120C-8 demonstrates Kyiv's efforts to modernize its air defense network and air combat capabilities to counter Russian firepower, especially in the context of ongoing long-range attacks.
