A turning point in the Mirage 2000's combat mission.
According to information from the Telegram channel Sunflower and widely published field videos, a Mirage 2000 fighter jet successfully dropped two AASM Hammer precision bombs on frontline targets. This is the first public evidence of this aircraft's ground-bombing capabilities in service with the Ukrainian Air Force.
Previously, military reports indicated that Ukraine only used the Mirage 2000 for defensive purposes, specifically shooting down Russian cruise missiles and drones. The shift to directly attacking ground targets demonstrates the flexibility in the deployment of Western equipment by the country's air force.
Weapon systems and equipment capabilities
To perform precision strike missions, the Mirage 2000 fighter jet is equipped with the French-made AASM Hammer guided bomb. This is a highly accurate weapon, allowing the aircraft to attack from a safe distance. For air combat missions, this aircraft still maintains the capability to intercept with MICA and Magic-2 missiles.
Pilot handover and training roadmap for 2026
In terms of force size, Ukraine is expected to receive two more fighter jets from France by the end of the first quarter of 2026. Three were delivered last year, however, one was lost during operation in the summer of 2025. It is projected that by the end of 2026, the Ukrainian Air Force will possess at least four Mirage 2000s in combat-ready condition.
Strengthening air force capabilities is accompanied by intensive personnel training. Currently, three Ukrainian pilots are participating in a Mirage 2000 pilot training course in France. The training process also includes ground technical staff to ensure the most effective maintenance and operation of the equipment on the battlefield.
