Ukraine and the United States officially sign a mineral agreement
Ukraine and the United States signed a mineral deal on April 30, as Washington gradually lost patience with the parties involved in the conflict.
According to The Hill, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko signed the mineral agreement on April 30 in Washington.
"As President Trump has said, the United States is committed to ending the senseless conflict in Ukraine. This agreement will send a clear message to Russia, emphasizing that Washington will pursue a long-term peace agreement," Mr. Bessent said.
Minister Bessent stressed that the mineral deal would prevent "any country and individual supporting Russia's military campaign" from benefiting from Ukraine's reconstruction.
On the Ukrainian side, Ms. Svyrydenko sent her thanks to the US government, affirming that this agreement could benefit both Kiev and Washington.

"The agreement provides for the creation of a US-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, which will be managed jointly by the two countries on an equal basis, with no one party having a greater stake. The underground minerals will remain Ukrainian property, and Kiev will decide what and where to extract them. I am grateful to all those who worked to advance this agreement," Svyrydenko said.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko, the fund's income and contributions will not be taxed in Ukraine and the US. In addition, the US will help attract more investment and technology to Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal affirmed that the mineral agreement would be "a solid, equal international agreement on joint investment in the development and recovery of Ukraine". In particular, future military aid from Washington will be considered as a contribution to this fund, previous support will not be counted.
Local media noted that although the mineral deal does not provide any specific security guarantees for Kiev, it does confirm the long-term strategic alignment between the US and Ukraine.
