Sao Mai (Chairman of Nghi An Commune) June 29, 2023 18:25

(Baonghean.vn) - With the dream of changing his life in his old garden, the young man boldly brought the melon variety to plant on the poor sandy soil in Nghi An commune, Vinh city. And right from the first melon crop, he had a sweet fruit season.

Born in 1995, young man Luong Hai Du, residing in Hoa Hop hamlet, Nghi An commune, Vinh city, graduated from Vinh University of Technical Education in 2017 with a major in electrical engineering.

Graduating from school with the dream of creating a new, stable and independent life for himself, but what to do and where to start to satisfy his passion and youthful aspiration to assert himself, is a difficult problem to solve for him - a young man who just left school, with nothing but an electrical engineering degree as his starting point.

Born and raised in a poor rural area, Mr. Du always struggled with his dreams and ambitions. Looking at the countryside with the tradition of intercropping, on the barren fields with low productivity, now farmers are not very interested in farming, he was very worried.
Not resigned to the poverty that followed, the farmer here, although his vast land was mostly left fallow, had a dream of turning the dry, infertile fields and gardens in his homeland into fields and gardens that produced high-income products.

To make that dream come true, he discussed with his parents and siblings to join hands to help create initial conditions for him to go abroad to work and accumulate capital.

He went to Japan to work as a worker from 2017 to 2022, returning to his hometown. With capital in hand and a long-standing determination to start a business, he initially searched for information on social networking sites to learn how to grow high-yield agricultural crops that are suitable for local soil conditions, so he chose a crop called "Greenhouse melon".

Luckily for him, this first project always had the support and companionship of his father, Mr. Luong Van Can, 58 years old, an experienced and eager-to-learn farmer.

With his father's support, he focused on contacting farming facilities and learning fertilization techniques. The greenhouse farm was invested in building 600m2on an area of over 2,000m2 my family's garden

Visiting his garden model, before our eyes was an eye-catching green color with straight rows of melons, shining brightly in the hot summer sun were hundreds of plump yellow melons about to be harvested.

He shared: “After working in Japan at the end of 2022, and celebrating the traditional New Year at the end of February 2023, I asked my parents' permission to get married to settle down. After getting married and cherishing my career path, in early March this year I decided to build and plant the first crop of melons, this type of melon is called Huynh Long yellow melon, originating from Malaysia. One crop has 1,500 plants, yielding about 2.5 to 3 tons, retail price is about 60,000 VND/kg.

This variety of melon is suitable for planting from February to August of the solar calendar, suitable for the warm and sunny weather of Nghe An. Fortunately, this crop has favorable weather conditions, along with the suitable soil here, so the seedlings grow and develop well, producing fruit as required, each plant has a fruit weighing from 2-2.2 kg. Preliminary calculation of income from this crop of melons is about more than 100 million VND, net profit is over 70 million VND.

"The first batch cost a bit high, but what makes me happiest is achieving my dream, gaining the secrets of the profession, and next season when I have experience, I will boldly invest in expanding production," Du confided.

Saying goodbye to him, we were happy, happy not only because his achievements were rewarded but also because the young people in the village were able to make a living, because somewhere there were still people wasting time and energy on useless things.

Congratulations on your success, congratulations to the young people who dare to think and do with new models on the old garden.
