"The high effectiveness of the campaign shows that vaccination has 'opened' the way for us to get out of the Covid-19 pandemic," the AP news agency quoted a statement from the Robert Koch Institute as saying.

According to figures released by German Health Minister Jens Spahn on August 7th, Germany now has over 45 million people, or 54.5% of the total population, who have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

India authorizes the use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

"We have granted emergency use authorization for the vaccine manufactured by the American company Johnson & Johnson. This will further strengthen India's efforts in combating the pandemic," the Associated Press quoted Indian Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya as saying on Twitter on August 7.

The Associated Press noted that the move by India's Ministry of Health aims to bolster hopes that vaccination rates in the country will increase. This is because, following the June vaccination campaign, rates had declined due to supply chain issues and the approval process for new vaccines.

According to Japanese health officials, the Lambda variant was first detected in Peru in August 2020 and has now spread widely in South America. Compared to the original Covid-19 strain, this variant is more infectious and more resistant to vaccines.
