Van Gaal officially retires.
The former manager of Manchester United, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich has officially announced his retirement from coaching after a year of unemployment.
After two seasons managing Manchester United and winning one FA Cup, Louis van Gaal was sacked by the club to make way for Jose Mourinho. Since then, Van Gaal has not found a new job and has now announced his retirement.

Specifically, Van Gaal told the press: "Last year, I changed my mind and wanted to take a short break. But now, I believe it's time not to return to coaching again."
After an impressive 2014 World Cup campaign with the Netherlands, Van Gaal was given a red carpet welcome to Old Trafford, but his philosophy did not yield positive results. The lackluster style of play under Van Gaal frustrated many fans, and this is believed to be the reason why the Red Devils' board decided to terminate his contract early.
Previously, in his coaching career, Van Gaal managed several clubs such as Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and AZ. His greatest success was at Ajax, where he led the Dutch club to three consecutive league titles and, most notably, the Champions League victory in the 1994/95 season.
Joining Barcelona in 1997, Van Gaal also managed to help the Catalan club win La Liga twice, the Copa del Rey once, and the UEFA Super Cup once. At Bayern Munich, he only led the Bavarians to one Bundesliga title and lost in the Champions League final to Inter Milan in the 2009/10 season.
Louis van Gaal's most significant legacy lies in his ability to extend his influence to renowned coaches across Europe. Whether it's Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, or Steve Clarke, Brendan Rodgers, and Andre Villas-Boas, all have been influenced by Van Gaal.
