Van Sy Son unexpectedly leaves the capital city team.
(Baonghean.vn) - A few days after Do Vinh Quang (25 years old), son of Chairman Hien, was appointed as President of Hanoi FC, assistant coach Van Sy Son unexpectedly announced his departure from the team. The former SLNA defender's departure before the start of the V.League 2020 season is considered a surprise.
It's not Huu Thang, Quang Truong, or Cong Vinh, but Van Sy Son who is the most successful player from Nghe An province. Joining the capital city team in 2008, the former left-back of SLNA, besides winning the First Division championship (2008), also won the V-League 5 times and finished as runner-up 4 times with Hanoi FC.
In addition, the club has also won the Vietnamese Super Cup twice. Hanoi FC holds the record for being promoted three consecutive years, from the third division to the top tier of Vietnamese football. In continental competitions, Hanoi FC also reached the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup in 2014, won the Southeast Asian regional championship, and reached the inter-regional final of the AFC Cup in 2019.
Because I have personal matters to attend to.

The former star player said: "Although I am very sad to have to say goodbye to the team I have been with for so many years, I am resigning due to personal reasons." For more than a decade, Van Sy Son has been associated with Hanoi FC as an assistant coach to Trieu Quang Ha, Nguyen Huu Thang, Phan Thanh Hung, Pham Minh Duc, and Chu Dinh Nghiem.
It must be said that the years playing for SLNA gave Van Sy Son a lot of professional experience and relationships with colleagues and VFF officials. Van Sy Son and his brothers joined SLNA in 1991, and the left-back position of the Nghe An team quickly became associated with this player born in 1972.
During his playing career, despite his physical disadvantage, Van Sy Son played very skillfully. At that time, the trio of the Van Sy brothers – Van Sy Hung, Van Sy Son, and Van Sy Thuy – contributed greatly to the success of the team based in Vinh. Van Sy Son's cunning tackles always kept opposing strikers on their toes.
While playing for SLNA and later as an assistant coach at the Hanoi club, Van Sy Son received numerous red cards due to his quick tempers. The SLNA captain also received a disciplinary warning and a one-and-a-half-year suspension for a lack of responsibility during the 2003-2004 season. As a coach, this assistant coach often reacted excessively to referee decisions, leading to suspensions, most notably the time he bowed to referee Vo Minh Tri.
A perfect match

At the capital city's football team, Van Sy Son and Chu Dinh Nghiem formed one of the most effective partnerships in the V.League. They worked together from the First Division until May 2016, after Minh Duc resigned and Chu Dinh Nghiem was promoted to head coach, Van Sy Son became the right-hand man to the coach from Nam Dinh.
In the 2018 V.League season, when coach Chu Đình Nghiêm received a four-match suspension, Sỹ Sơn stepped in to fill in for three matches, helping the Hanoi team maintain their winning streak and steadily advance to the first-half championship. With his strong personality, coach Văn Sỹ Sơn wielded considerable authority over his players at Hàng Đẫy Stadium, despite Hanoi having several players with strong personalities.
After achieving success in football, Chairman Hien has been seen making new moves regarding his business strategy in the football industry. Following the transfer of the youth team to Ha Tinh to establish Hong Linh Ha Tinh, Chairman Hien sold Saigon FC to Him Lam Group and Ben Thanh Group, and significantly altered the senior management structure of Hanoi FC. Besides appointing his son as the club's chairman, Hanoi FC also appointed two new positions: Daniel Enriquez as technical director and Nicolas Gandini as fitness coach.
Hanoi FC is already too strong for the rest of the V.League, and their goal now is to compete in regional and continental competitions. It was widely believed that Van Sy Son would be a key player in the team's development and elevation strategy, but surprisingly, the former Nghe An national team player has left the club.
Many members of Van Sy's family have left football, so it would be a shame if Van Sy Son were no longer involved with the sport. Hopefully, we will soon see Van Sy Son appearing in a different role, with a different team, taking on a job related to football.
