Van Sy Son suddenly leaves the capital football team

Not Huu Thang, Quang Truong or Cong Vinh, but Van Sy Son is the Nghe An native with the most achievements on the field. Joining the capital team in 2008, the former left-back of SLNA, in addition to the First Division championship (2008), Van Sy Son also won the V-League championship 5 times with Hanoi FC and was runner-up 4 times.

In addition, the club has also won the Vietnamese Super Cup twice. The Hanoi team holds the record of being promoted for 3 consecutive years, from the third division to compete in the highest division of Vietnamese football. In the continental arena, Hanoi FC also reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 AFC Cup, won the Southeast Asian championship and reached the inter-zone final of the 2019 AFC Cup.

The former player said: "Although I am very sorry to have to say goodbye to the team I have been with for so many years, I have to resign because of personal matters." For more than a decade, Van Sy Son has been with Hanoi as an assistant to Trieu Quang Ha, Nguyen Huu Thang, Phan Thanh Hung, Pham Minh Duc and Chu Dinh Nghiem.

It must be said that the years playing for SLNA helped Van Sy Son gain a lot of professional experience and relationships with colleagues and VFF officials. Van Sy Son and his brothers joined SLNA in 1991 and the left-back position of the Nghe An team was soon attached to this player born in 1972.

While still playing, despite his physical disadvantage, Van Sy Son played very strangely. At that time, the Van Sy trio including Van Sy Hung - Van Sy Son - Van Sy Thuy contributed a lot to the achievements of the Vinh home team. Van Sy Son's tricky tackles always made the opposing strikers wary.

While playing for SLNA and later working as an assistant at the capital team, Van Sy Son received red cards many times due to his quick temper. The SLNA captain also received a disciplinary warning and a 1.5 year suspension for lack of responsibility in the 2003-2004 season. As a coach, this assistant reacted excessively to referee decisions many times, so he had to be suspended, typically the time he bowed to referee Vo Minh Tri.

At the capital football team, Van Sy Son and Chu Dinh Nghiem were a pair of the most compatible players in the V.League. They played together from the first division until May 2016, when Minh Duc resigned and Chu Dinh Nghiem was promoted to head coach, and Van Sy Son became the right-hand man for the Nam Dinh coach.

In V.League 2018, when coach Chu Dinh Nghiem received a 4-match disciplinary sentence, Sy Son was a substitute for 3 matches and helped the capital team maintain a winning streak, advancing to the championship position in the first leg. With a strong personality, coach Van Sy Son is very influential with his students at Hang Day Stadium, although Hanoi has many players with personality.

After being “full” of football achievements, people saw that Mr. Hien had new moves in football business strategy. After transferring the youth team to Ha Tinh to establish Hong Linh Ha Tinh, Mr. Hien sold Saigon FC to Him Lam Group and Ben Thanh Group and drastically changed the senior personnel structure of Hanoi FC. In addition to appointing his son as the Club President, Hanoi has just appointed 2 new positions, inviting Mr. Daniel Enriquez as technical director and Nicolas Gandini as fitness coach.

Hanoi is too strong compared to the rest of V.League, their goal now is to advance to the regional and continental arena. People still thought that Van Sy Son would be a pillar in the development strategy and raise the level of the capital team, but surprisingly, this former player from Nghe An left the team.

Many members of Van Sy's family have left football, it would be a pity if Van Sy Son is no longer attached to the field. Hopefully, people will soon see Van Sy Son appear in another position, another team taking on football-related work.
