Agarwood root is a wild plant that is easy to cultivate but only suitable for red-yellow ferralitic soil. In particular, semi-mountainous areas like Quynh Thang and Tan Thang (Quynh Luu district) yield the highest productivity, highest medicinal properties, and the most distinctive aromatic scent. Currently, these two localities also have the largest area of agarwood root cultivation in the province, with each commune having approximately 400 hectares. (Photo: TP)

Some households with machinery grind the roots into powder, package it, and supply it to incense and incense stick manufacturers. Mr. Nguyen Dao, the owner of an incense making facility in Quynh Thang commune (Quynh Luu district), said: “Incense roots are an easily marketable product, and there are times when this raw material is scarce. Therefore, we buy up whatever amount the people produce.” (Photo: TP)

With the current purchase price of fragrant root at over 50,000 VND/kg of dried root, one hectare can yield an income of over 200 million VND after 12 months of planting and caring for it; after deducting expenses, farmers still make a profit of about 100-110 million VND/ha. Photo: TP

The production of incense sticks and cones takes place year-round, so nowadays, people also plant them in staggered seasons to ensure a consistent harvest and supply of raw materials to the market. Besides the plots currently being harvested, there are also plots that the villagers are tending to. (Photo: TP)
