At noon on June 5, 2022, while Mai was at home, a man and a woman arrived on a motorbike and asked to buy black chickens. After learning that Mai didn't have any black chickens, the couple asked Mai to buy methamphetamine instead. Mai agreed to sell 30 packets of methamphetamine for 50 million dong.
The woman gave Mai 10 million dong upfront, then took the drugs. Afterwards, the customer put the drugs in the trunk of her motorbike and invited Mai to go to the market to buy food.
On the way to the market, the woman got off the motorbike to use the restroom, while Mai waited on the motorbike. They were then spotted and arrested by the police along with over 580 grams of drugs.
At the trial, the defendant wept and admitted to the crime. Mai testified that after discovering her husband's drugs, she hid them to dispose of them. However, before she could throw them away, someone asked to buy them, so she sold them.
The female defendant wept, explaining her difficult circumstances, including the death of her husband and the young age of her children, in order to plead for a reduced sentence.
After a comprehensive review of the case, the court sentenced the defendant Xong Thi Mai to 20 years in prison for the crime of illegally trading narcotics.
