(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of September 16th, the People's Court of Tan Ky district tried the criminal case against Nguyen Ba Son (born in 1980) and Nguyen Van Hiep (born in 1990), both residing in Dong Van commune, Tan Ky district, for the crime of gambling.
At 8:20 PM on June 29, 2021, Hiep used his Facebook Messenger account named "Hiep village chief" to call Son's Facebook Messenger account "Son Nghe An" with the message "I'm sending you a bet on the England - Germany match," meaning Hiep wanted to gamble with Son by betting on the football match between the England and Germany national teams in EURO 2020, which took place on the night of June 29, 2021.
After listening to Hiep's discussion, Son replied, "The odds are England is giving a 1/4 handicap." Hearing this, Hiep replied, "OK, I'll bet later."

At 8:21 PM, Hiep sent a text message with the following content:"Germany 6 million VND"Then he sent it to the account "Son Nghe An". Son called Hiep back and said...""The English team is giving a 1/4 handicap, so I bet 6 million on the German team, right?", Hiep replied.Yes"Later, Son texted Hiep to confirm that Hiep had bet 6,000,000 VND on the German national team.
Not stopping there, Hiep bet an additional 3,000,000 VND on Germany, plus 1,500,000 VND on the over/under bet and other score bets (Germany 2-1 England; Germany 2-2 England; England 2-1 Germany; England 0-0 Germany; England 3-2 Germany; England 1-1 Germany; England 0-1 Germany; Germany 2-1 England) totaling 900,000 VND..
The total amount of money Hiep gambled(Football betting)According to Son, the bet for the match between the England and Germany teams on June 29, 2021 was 11,400,000 VND.
The match ended with Germany losing to England 2-0, resulting in Hiep losing 11,400,000 VND in gambling. However, Hiep has not yet repaid Son this amount.
On June 30, 2021, the Tan Ky District Police Investigation Agency issued an emergency detention order against Nguyen Ba Son, seized and sealed the evidence, and escorted Son to the Tan Ky District Police Investigation Agency. On the same day, Nguyen Van Hiep surrendered to the Tan Ky District Police Investigation Agency, confessing to his crime and handing over evidence related to his gambling activities.
In this case, Son confessed that after receiving the betting money of 11,400,000 VND from Hiep, he transferred 5,000,000 VND to Le Van Huy (born in 1989), who lives in the same commune.
Nguyen Van Hiep confessed that in addition to gambling with Son on June 29, 2021, he also gambled with Nguyen Huu Tho, born in 1989 and residing in the same commune, on June 17, 2021, betting 2,850,000 VND.
The Tan Ky District Police Investigation Agency has conducted an investigation, but currently Le Van Huy and Nguyen Huu Tho are not present in the locality, and their residences are unknown, so there is no basis to conclude on the gambling activities of Nguyen Ba Son with Le Van Huy; and Nguyen Van Hiep with Nguyen Huu Tho.
At the end of the trial, the panel of judges sentenced Nguyen Van Hiep to 9 months and Nguyen Ba Son to 18 months of non-custodial correctional training.
