In the days leading up to the 2026 Lunar New Year, orchids mounted on driftwood created a "craze" in the market, leading to increased demand and a hectic work pace for orchid arrangement artisans in Nghe An.

In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), along many central roads in Nghe An province, especially in the Le Nin Boulevard area (Vinh Phu ward), Truong Thi (Truong Vinh ward)... orchid shops are overflowing with Phalaenopsis orchids to meet the shopping and Tet decoration needs of the people. Speaking to reporters, a representative of an orchid shop on Lenin Avenue said that the majority of orchid pots are made to order, accounting for about 80% of the total products. According to orchid arrangers, the process of completing an orchid arrangement on driftwood usually takes several hours, or even longer for more complex designs. It is known that the worker's fee is usually calculated per stem; the more stems arranged, the higher the income, ranging from 2 to 3 million VND per day, and potentially higher during peak seasons. In the technique of arranging Phalaenopsis orchids on driftwood, the craftsman must perform many elaborate steps, requiring skill and experience. Ms. Phuong Thao, the owner of an orchid shop in Truong Vinh ward, said: "For Tet 2026, we imported 10,000 orchid plants, with prices in various segments. Each affordable pot costs from 200,000 to 500,000 VND. Orchids grown on driftwood or those with elaborate, complex designs and large sizes can cost millions, even tens of millions of VND, depending on customer demand." (Photo: QA)
