Airline ticket prices have increased across the board.
All three major domestic airlines implemented fare increases or service fee hikes during the period at the end of March and the beginning of April.
According to a notice sent to travel agents, from April 1st, domestic business class fares offered by Vietnam Airlines will increase by 100,000 - 500,000 VND per leg. The adjustment for economy class is 40,000 - 300,000 VND, while other surcharges and fees remain unchanged. However, the airline stated that there will be no price increase on local routes to Buon Ma Thuot, Dien Bien, etc.

According to the airline's representative, the service surcharge has increased, but the percentage increase is not significant; the total increase per ticket is only equivalent to or lower than the rate of increase in the consumer price index (CPI). Prior to these two airlines, from March 15th, Jetstar Pacific Airlines also increased its system management fee from 100,000 to 130,000 VND per route.
Similarly, from March 22nd, Vietjet Airlines also increased its system service fee from 100,000 VND to 140,000 VND per domestic flight and from 120,000 VND to 160,000 VND for international flights. Two days prior, the airline also adjusted several service surcharges, including seat selection and baggage fees, by approximately 10,000-20,000 VND per flight. The surcharge for changing international flights due to delays increased from 735,000 VND to one million VND per passenger.
The aforementioned adjustments all affect the total cost passengers pay when purchasing air tickets and are not related to the recent proposed increase in peak-hour airfare by the Civil Aviation Authority. Typically, airlines notify travel agents of these adjustments before implementation. However, according to VnExpress's observations, except for Jetstar, which notified them two days in advance, many travel agents only learned about the adjustments from other airlines when the prices and fees officially came into effect.
According to an aviation industry leader, even when global oil prices rose sharply, airfares did not increase. Meanwhile, for about two years now, this official believes that airfares have decreased due to direct competition in both domestic and international segments. With this latest increase in airfares and service fees, he believes the highest price for domestic flights is only about 80% of the regulated ceiling price.
