The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has assigned the task of qualifying for the 2030 World Cup to the Vietnamese U23 generation.
VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan has urged the entire Vietnam U23 team to put aside their success at the SEA Games and focus entirely on the 2026 AFC U23 Championship as a foundation for achieving their historic goal.
On the afternoon of December 24th, the President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Tran Quoc Tuan, met with, encouraged, and assigned strategic tasks to the Vietnam U23 team before their departure to Qatar for training. The main message conveyed was a long-term goal: competing for a spot in the 2030 World Cup Finals.
The big goal ahead: From the SEA Games to the World Cup
During the meeting, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan emphasized that despite the team's recent high achievement at the SEA Games 33, the players need to quickly put aside the glory and focus on greater challenges. He affirmed that the 2026 AFC U23 Championship Finals is a competition of a higher caliber and with a significantly more demanding nature.
In the upcoming tournament, the Vietnam U23 team will face a tough group, including host nation Saudi Arabia, Jordan U23, and Kyrgyzstan U23. The VFF president sees this as a valuable opportunity for the current generation of young players to gain experience and hone their skills at the highest level in the continent.
Strategic vision and comprehensive investment
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan affirmed that the current U23 Vietnam team is the core of the campaign towards the 2030 World Cup. Therefore, the VFF is setting very high demands on discipline and focus from the entire team right from this moment.
To achieve this goal, the VFF is committed to comprehensive investment and creating the most favorable conditions for the national team. Initially, the Vietnam U23 team will have a training camp in Qatar and play a friendly match against Syria U23 to assess their squad and refine their tactics.
After the preparation phase, the team will travel to Saudi Arabia to begin their journey in the AFC U23 Asian Championship. Vietnam U23's opening match will take place on January 6th, against Jordan U23.
