The Disciplinary Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has disciplined Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat, head coach of the Thai Nguyen U16 women's team, for attempting to falsify the results of the match between Thai Nguyen and Ho Chi Minh City.

On July 29th, the VFF Disciplinary Committee issued a disciplinary decision against Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat, head coach of the Thai Nguyen U16 women's team, for attempting to falsify the match results between Thai Nguyen and Ho Chi Minh City, thereby damaging the image of the tournament in particular and Vietnamese football in general.

According to the decision, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat, head coach of the Thai Nguyen U16 women's team, was fined 5,000,000 VND (five million Vietnamese dong) and suspended from participating in football activities managed and organized by the VFF for 12 months for intending to falsify the results of the match between Thai Nguyen and Ho Chi Minh City teams, affecting the image of the tournament in particular and Vietnamese football in general.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat has the right to appeal to the VFF Appeals Committee in accordance with the VFF Disciplinary Regulations (amended and supplemented in 2023).

Regarding this matter, on July 24th, the VFF's Anti-Corruption Committee sent a document to the VFF Disciplinary Committee requesting consideration of disciplinary action against the head coach of the Thai Nguyen U16 Women's Football Club for his alleged intention to fix match results.

According to a report from the Ho Chi Minh City U16 Women's Football Club, during their participation in the 2024 National U16 Women's Championship, the head coach of the Ho Chi Minh City U16 Women's Football Club was asked by the head coach of the Thai Nguyen U16 Women's Football Club to instruct the players to underperform in order to help the Thai Nguyen U16 Women's Football Club win (2-0) in the match on July 21, 2024.

However, the head coach of the Ho Chi Minh City U16 Women's Club rejected the offer and reported the matter to the VFF. In the match on July 21st, the Ho Chi Minh City U16 Women's Club drew 1-1 with the Thai Nguyen U16 Women's Club. Even more reprehensible, after failing to reach an agreement, on the evening of July 21st, 2024, the coach of the Thai Nguyen U16 Women's team sent insulting and even threatening messages to the head coach of the Ho Chi Minh City U16 Women's Club.

Considering the complex nature of the incident, on July 23rd and 24th, 2024, the VFF's functional committees met and worked with the relevant parties, and also invited the Criminal Police Department to participate. At the meeting, the head coach of the Thai Nguyen U16 women's club admitted to suggesting to the head coach of the Ho Chi Minh City U16 women's club that they play below their potential so that the Thai Nguyen U16 women's team could win 2-0, but this was refused, and subsequently, insulting and threatening messages were sent...

Regarding this matter, Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi – General Secretary of the VFF – stated that the entire dossier has been transferred by the VFF's Anti-Corruption Committee to the VFF Disciplinary Committee for a decision on sanctions. Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi affirmed that the VFF has been, is, and will continue to resolutely address and eliminate signs and behaviors of corruption to ensure the sustainable and clean development of Vietnamese football.
