On the afternoon of October 13th, the Dong Da District Police announced that they are investigating an incident in which a young man, not wearing a helmet, resisted arrest and injured a traffic police officer when stopped for inspection.

At approximately 6:45 AM on October 13th, Nguyen Thanh Tung (25 years old), residing at 5A, Group 19, Vinh Hung Ward, Hoang Mai District, Hanoi, was driving a blue Wave RSX motorbike with license plate 29S1 – 312.92 on Truong Chinh Street towards Nga Tu So intersection.

Because Tung wasn't wearing a helmet, when he reached the area in front of house number 526 Truong Chinh Street, Officer Ma Ngoc Chi (22 years old), a traffic police officer from Team 3, who was on duty directing traffic and preventing congestion, signaled him to stop for inspection. However, Tung did not comply and accelerated, swerving to the right side of his lane. After passing the officer, Tung cursed and insulted the traffic police officer.

Comrade Ma Ngoc Chi informed Lieutenant Pham Van Tung (26 years old), a soldier of Traffic Police Team No. 3 who was on duty directing traffic in front of house number 536 Truong Chinh (20m away), via walkie-talkie to stop the vehicle for inspection.

After receiving the radio call, Lieutenant Tùng spotted Nguyễn Thanh Tùng on the road and approached the suspect's motorbike. However, before he could signal him to stop, the suspect rammed his motorbike into him, causing him to fall to the ground.

The suspect, Thanh Tung, lost control of his motorbike, and both he and the motorbike fell to the left, about 2 meters away. He then got up and approached Officer Pham Van Tung, punching him repeatedly in the cheek, causing the officer to break two front teeth.

Nguyen Thanh Tung was then taken to the Nga Tu So Ward Police Station by traffic police and members of the public for further investigation.

The case has been handed over to the General Investigation Team of the Dong Da District Police for handling according to their jurisdiction.

Currently, the Dong Da District Police are holding Nguyen Thanh Tung in custody for criminal investigation into the act of resisting a public official.
