Why did Coach Park "abandon" Van Quyet and prioritize U23 players?

As expected, Coach Park Hang Seo has called up a series of U23 Vietnam players to the Vietnam national team to prepare for the match against Jordan on March 27. Accordingly, up to 14 U23 Vietnam players have been called back after being disbanded since the 2018 U23 Asian Cup finals.

Among the players not in the U23 Vietnam squad, coach Park Hang Seo called up experienced players such as midfielder Dinh Thanh Trung (Quang Nam), Vu Minh Tuan (Thanh Hoa), "veteran" Nguyen Anh Duc (B.Binh Duong, 33 years old), and central defender Lam Anh Quang (SHB.Da Nang).

Van Quyet is not present at this Vietnam national team training session.

In fact, the Korean coach has a reason for not calling Van Quyet up to the national team this time. The midfielder of Hanoi FC has just been suspended by the VFF Disciplinary Board. He had to sit out the first two matches of the 2018 season, and was only allowed to enter the field in the third round of the V-League, on April 5 against HA Gia Lai FC.

Because he could not evaluate Van Quyet's performance when he was not playing, coach Park Hang Seo decided to let him stay at the club, and then depending on the situation, he would call Van Quyet in the next training sessions. In the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese team has already secured a ticket with 9 points, ranking second after Jordan (11 points). The match with Jordan on March 27 will therefore be decisive for the top spot in Group C.

On March 23, the entire Vietnamese team will gather in Hanoi to travel 10,000 kilometers to Jordan the next day. The day before, players from Hanoi and HA Gia Lai will gather early because the match in round 3 of the V-League was postponed due to the state funeral of former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.
