Why should you keep toothpaste in your car?

Besides its primary use for oral hygiene, toothpaste can also be used to clean car interiors.

Clean the headlights.

Cars that are driven frequently easily get dirty and develop stains and smudges. Even when cleaning, headlights are the hardest part to clean and often the least cared-for. Knowing this trick using toothpaste can save you both time and money.

First, spray water onto the headlight surface and wipe it with a cloth. Then, put toothpaste on a soft cloth and wipe the headlight from the inside out. To make the headlight shine, you should repeat this step several times. Finally, rinse with water and dry.

However, you should note that you should not use toothpaste containing cooling beads, crystals, or similar ingredients as they can scratch the headlights.

Cleaning car interiors

Toothpaste can clean stains on car seats. If the car seats are too old to be cleaned with regular water, you can use the following steps:

Use toothpaste along with a round toothbrush with a hole in the middle, a drill, and a spray bottle. Then, insert the drill into the hole on the toothbrush, apply some toothpaste to the toothbrush, and add a little water.

When the drill is running, it's similar to an automatic rotating washer that helps remove dirt from the car's interior. The process usually takes about 2-3 minutes depending on the level of dirt. Afterwards, wipe it dry to ensure the dirt is removed. Additionally, you can add baking soda along with toothpaste to increase the cleaning effectiveness.

For use in emergencies.

Sometimes, while driving or in emergencies, you might encounter stains on your car's surface. Toothpaste is a quick fix for cleaning stains that you can do right away. A tube of toothpaste doesn't take up much space in the car, so it can be conveniently stored and used anytime.

Additionally, toothpaste is often used with a small brush or sponge to clean small details on the wheels or hard-to-reach crevices.

Treating scratches

Toothpaste not only cleans but is also used as a polishing agent.

For minor scratches, toothpaste can help remove them and restore shine. It's best to use a non-abrasive, low-mint toothpaste that isn't gel-based, and doesn't contain granules or whitening agents.

However, according to experts, toothpaste is only truly effective when used to treat minor scratches; for major scratches, there is usually not much difference when using it.

Prevent rainwater from accumulating on rearview mirrors.

After cleaning and drying the rearview mirror, apply a small amount of toothpaste to the glass surface and wipe it with a cloth until no toothpaste residue remains. Then, spray water onto the glass surface; any areas where toothpaste was applied should be free of water droplets and not smudge the mirror.

The reason for this phenomenon is that the surfactants in toothpaste help prevent the formation of water droplets or condensation, so water no longer sticks to the mirror. In this case, toothpaste acts like a specialized anti-water-repellent. Using a smooth, non-granular toothpaste is recommended to achieve the desired effect and optimal results.

Although toothpaste has many uses in car cleaning, experts still advise using it only as a temporary solution and not as a complete replacement for regular car maintenance and cleaning.
