Despite being a king of the Akan people in Ghana, Africa, he decided to return to Canada to work as a gardener so he could earn money to send back to his people.

When people think of royal families, they immediately picture kings and queens who are powerful and never have to lift a finger. However, the king of the Akan people in Ghana, Africa, is doing a job that no one would expect: a gardener.

Last year, Eric Manu left his gardening job in Langley, British Columbia, in western Canada to return to his homeland in West Africa and ascend to the throne. He inherited the throne from his uncle when his uncle died in 2015 at the age of 67.

However, on September 19th, Eric decided to return to Canada and continue his gardening work, hoping to earn money and send it back to help the Akan people.

According to Eric Manu, Ghana is a country that does not prioritize poverty reduction and improving the lives of people in rural areas. While cities are developing rapidly, people in remote areas face significant difficulties in accessing clean water, electricity, telecommunications networks, and other infrastructure.

That's what motivated Eric to return to Canada to work; partly to earn money and also to find partners and philanthropists who could help the people in his homeland.

Manu first came to Canada in 2012 and married a Canadian woman. They now have a handsome son.

As a king of the Akan people, Manu understood the importance of a monarch's role to his people and the respect they held for him.

"People in my hometown respect me a lot, so I have a responsibility to bring them a better life," Manu said. "It helps me to live more responsibly, as well as become a mature man, more tolerant and considerate of others."

Eric Manu received strong public support when he negotiated with the Ghanaian government regarding the living conditions of the people there. This was a valuable experience in governing the country for the Vice President of Ghana.

He said he received strong support from the people during negotiations with the Ghanaian government, which prompted the vice president to pay attention to the villagers' conditions. According to Manu, this was also a valuable experience for the vice president.

Eric Manu's dream was to see his people prosper. This benevolent king even wished they could have a life as good as in a "second Canada."
