Vietnam has 5 USD billionaires
The annual ranking of world USD billionaires published by Forbes has honored 5 USD billionaires from Vietnam, an increase of 1 person compared to last year... For the first time, Vietnam has 5 faces in the list of billionaires in the world.
On the evening of March 5 (Vietnam time), Forbes magazine announced the list of world billionaires in 2019. This year, Vietnam has 5 USD billionaires on this list.
Leading the list of Vietnam's USD billionaires is still Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong - Chairman of Vingroup - with total assets recorded by Forbes at 6.6 billion USD. Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong is ranked as the 239th richest person in the world, up 260 places compared to the list published a year ago.
Pham Nhat Vuong's assets also increased by 2.3 billion USD compared to the previous year after Vingroup listed Vinhomes Joint Stock Company shares on the stock exchange and the price of VIC shares of this group increased continuously. Mr. Vuong was first recognized as a billionaire by Forbes in 2013 with total assets of 1.5 billion USD and always leads the list of the richest people in Vietnam.

In second place is still Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao - General Director of Vietjet Air - with assets of 2.3 billion USD and ranked 1,008. Thus, compared to the assets worth 3.1 billion USD that this magazine announced in early 2018, Ms. Thao has decreased by 800 million USD. That caused the female billionaire's ranking to drop sharply by 242 places.
The third face on the list of USD billionaires is Mr. Tran Ba Duong - Chairman of Truong Hai Auto Corporation - with assets worth 1.7 billion USD and ranked 1,349. Compared to last year when he was first voted by Forbes, Mr. Tran Ba Duong's assets decreased by 100 million USD and his ranking also dropped 10 places.

Thus, compared to the list of USD billionaires announced in March 2018, Vietnam has one more USD billionaire but two new faces. The only businessman removed from this year's list is Mr. Tran Dinh Long - Chairman of Hoa Phat Group. The reason is that at the time of closing the list in mid-February, HPG's stock price had decreased by 35% compared to the peak in 2018. However, currently, HPG's stock price has recovered and according to Forbes' real-time data, Mr. Long's assets have reached the 1 billion USD mark.
Leading the list of richest people on the planet in 2019 according to Forbes is Mr. Jeff Bezos - founder and head of Amazon Group - with assets reaching 131 billion USD, an increase of 19 billion USD compared to a year ago. This is also the second year that the boss of Amazon has topped this list.
Coming in second is billionaire Bill Gates - founder of Microsoft - with assets worth 96.5 billion USD. Third is billionaire Warren Buffett with assets worth 82.5 billion USD.
In this year's list of the world's richest people, US President Donald Trump has assets worth 3.1 billion USD, ranking 715th on the list. The president's assets have hardly changed compared to last year...
