Vietnam wins numerous awards at the 'Oscars of tourism'.

Among the more than 50 World Travel Awards – WTA 2016 winners, Vietnam had 24 representatives. Da Nang was honored with the award for Asia's leading festival destination.

On the evening of October 15th, the 23rd World Travel Awards (WTA) ceremony took place at the Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort. The awards aim to honor the best service providers across the leading tourism and travel industries in Asia and Oceania.

Da Nang City (Vietnam) is honored to receive the award for Asia's Leading Festival and Event Destination.According to the Da Nang City Tourism Promotion Center, receiving the award and co-organizing the event is a good opportunity to promote the image of Da Nang tourism to countries around the world, creating an impression of Da Nang's landscapes and people worthy of its position as a dynamic city for tourism and international events.

At the ceremony, 23 other Vietnamese entities, including hotels, apartments, tour operators, and airlines, also received awards.

Other representatives from Da Nang honored with the "leading resort in Asia" title include Naman Retreat; the luxury resort Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort was named with three titles: "leading luxury resort in Asia", "leading resort in Vietnam", and "leading spa resort in Vietnam".

Viettravel (headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City) simultaneously received two awards: Leading Tour Operator in Asia and Leading Tour Operator in Vietnam. This is the fourth consecutive year the company has received this title from the WTA.

In September 2016, Vietravel also received two prestigious awards in the Asian region: the TTG Travel Award for Best Travel Company in Vietnam, and the MTAA - Mekong International Travel Award for Best Outbound Tour Operator of the Year.

Mr. Tran Doan The Duy, Deputy General Director of Vietravel Company, said: "This award aims to encourage and motivate small and medium-sized enterprises to strive for development in the era of international integration."

According to Mr. Duy, Vietravel's goal from 2016 to 2020 is to strive to reach one million tourists and become Vietnam's first multinational travel company, while continuing to maintain its position among the Top 10 leading travel companies in Asia. In the near future, the company plans to open new routes to connect regions within the country as well as to international destinations.

The World Travel Awards (WTA) were established in 1993 and have expanded globally. The Wall Street Journal has likened the prestigious and influential awards presented by the WTA to the Oscars of the travel industry.

The awards include nominations in several categories: Aviation, Hotels, Resorts, Travel Companies, Transportation, Cruises, Tourist Destinations…
