Vietnam was informed that it would receive another gold medal in the women's team pencak silat event after a Thai athlete tested positive for doping.

The trio of Vietnamese martial artists were promoted to win the gold medal at the 29th SEA Games.

The Southeast Asian Games Federation announced that three athletes tested positive for doping at the 29th SEA Games: Wendy Ng Yan Yee (Malaysia, diving), Nurisan Loseng (Thailand, pencak silat), and Benjaporn Sriphanomthorn (Thailand, swimming).

“These athletes will be disqualified from all events. Any medals they won will be forfeited. If they win a gold medal, it will be awarded to the silver medalist in that event,” announced Southeast Asian Games President Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar.

This decision means that Vietnam's number of gold medals at the 29th SEA Games will increase from 58 to 59. Previously, Nguyen Thi Huyen, Nguyen Thi Thuy, and Nguyen Thi Thu Ha finished second in the regu (performance) event of pencak silat, four points behind the Thai team, which included Nurisan Loseng.

This result also helped Vietnam maintain its third place overall at the 29th SEA Games. Previously, two months after the tournament ended, Singapore was announced to have surpassed Vietnam for this position because the diving duo Ashlee Tan Yi Xuan and Fong Kay Yian were promoted from silver to gold after Wendy Ng Yan Yee of host country Malaysia tested positive for doping (at that time, both teams had 58 gold medals, but Singapore had more silver medals).
