According to Alexander Shcherbinin, Deputy Director of the Russian Helicopters Group, Vietnam is one of Russia's traditional partners and has extensive experience in using various types of aircraft. Over the past half-century, the former Soviet Union and Russia have supplied Vietnam with more than 50 types of helicopters, including the Mi-4, Mi-8, Mi-17, Mi-17-1V, Mi-171E, and Mi-172.
