Vietnam ranks average in English proficiency
Vietnamese people are better at English than a few years ago and Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have the highest English proficiency scores in the country.
Vietnam is in the average group in terms of English proficiency, ranked 31st out of 72 countries surveyed and announced by the international education organization EF on the morning of November 15. Vietnam's English proficiency score is 54.06 (on a scale of 100).

In Asia, Vietnam ranks 7th after Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, India, South Korea and Hong Kong.
In terms of domestic regions, English proficiency in the Southeast region (56.08 points) and the Red River Delta (53.56 points) is the best, while the South Central Coast provinces are lower with 48.97 points. Only the two cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have higher scores than other provinces and cities.
In terms of gender, women scored 1 point higher on the English proficiency test than men. The age group with the best English proficiency is 18-20.
Last year, Vietnam was ranked 29th out of 70 countries surveyed by EF. Over the past five years, Vietnamese people's English proficiency has improved significantly, compared to the low group from 2012 to 2014.
The EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) is a global English proficiency ranking conducted by EF with nearly one million adults from 72 countries taking an online test.
This year, the countries topping the rankings with very high English proficiency levels are the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Singapore, and Luxembourg./.
