Vietnam ranks in the middle range in English proficiency.
Vietnamese people are more proficient in English than they were a few years ago, and Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have the highest English proficiency scores in the country.
Vietnam is in the middle group in terms of English proficiency, ranking 31st out of 72 countries surveyed and announced by the international education organization EF on November 15th. Vietnam's English proficiency score is 54.06 (on a 100-point scale).

In Asia, Vietnam ranks 7th after Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, India, South Korea, and Hong Kong.
Considering the regions within the country, English proficiency in the Southeast region (56.08 points) and the Red River Delta region (53.56 points) is the best, while the South Central coastal provinces have lower scores at 48.97 points. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, in particular, have slightly higher scores than other provinces and cities.
In terms of gender, women scored one point higher than men on the English proficiency survey. The age group with the best English proficiency is 18-20.
Last year, Vietnam was ranked 29th out of 70 countries surveyed by EF. Over the past five years, the English proficiency of Vietnamese people has improved significantly, whereas previously, from 2012 to 2014, it was only in the lower group.
The EF English Proficiency Index (EPI) is a global ranking of English proficiency conducted by EF, with nearly one million adults from 72 countries participating through an online test.
This year, the top-ranked countries with very high levels of English proficiency are the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Singapore, and Luxembourg.
