On September 15, according to the roadmap of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam will stop providing 2G services nationwide. In order to help people most conveniently in the process of switching from 2G phones to 4G phones, Viettel Nghe An has been implementing many practical support programs.

Increase customer support capacity

Accordingly, phones that only support 2G waves (2G Only) will not be able to make calls from September 15. To prepare for the "G hour", currently, Viettel Nghe An is actively supporting customers before the signal shutdown to ensure user rights as well as the telecommunications network is always smooth.

At Viettel Store (No. 16, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street - Vinh City), the number of customers switching to 4G phones has increased dramatically in recent days. Most of the customers who need to upgrade to 4G phones at this time are elderly people, or do not have the conditions to switch, and are using push-button phones that do not support 4G technology.

Ms. Tran Thi Lan (Dong Vinh Ward - Vinh City) has been using a "brick" keyboard phone for many years. Hearing that after September 15, the 2G signal will be turned off, her phone will not be able to make or receive calls, and she needs to switch to a 4G phone, so she asked her grandchild to take her to a Viettel store to exchange for a new phone. Fortunately, the store currently has many 4G keyboard phones, easy to use, suitable for the elderly like Ms. Lan.

Not only increasing support staff at stores, Viettel Nghe An is also currently organizing many support points for conversion and upgrading to 4G devices at village cultural houses to propagate and support people, especially the elderly who do not have the conditions or means of transportation.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Sam (Dong Hieu, Thai Hoa Town) shared: “Previously, I used an old keyboard phone for more than 8 years. When the commune loudspeaker announced that the 2G phone would no longer be usable, I and many people in the neighborhood went to the cultural house to register to buy a preferential phone from Viettel for only 390,000 VND. This phone is also easy to use and quite cheap, suitable for the elderly like me. Viettel staff also enthusiastically instructed me so I could use it easily.

Many policies encourage people to switch to 4G

Implementing the Government's direction, the Ministry of Information and Communications has requested telecommunications service providers to have plans to encourage and support people to switch from pure 2G network devices to 4G-supported devices; ensuring that there are no more subscribers using terminal devices that only support 2G standards operating on the network from September 15, 2024.

With social responsibility and flexible business strategy, Viettel is a pioneer network operator in supporting people to convert 2G devices to 4G.

Viettel launches program to give away free 4G phones.

Accordingly, Viettel will give away free 4G phones to customers who register to buy prepaid packages with a term of 6 months or more, the package price remains unchanged compared to before. In addition, customers who do not want to commit to using the package will still receive a discount of up to 50% when buying some 4G smartphones provided by Viettel.

In particular, Viettel also has preferential support policies for poor and near-poor households when purchasing 4G devices. In addition, users who successfully switch from 2G to 4G will also receive free high-speed 4G data and use online TV viewing applications...

At this time, Viettel is also actively coordinating with the Department of Information and Communications and local authorities at all levels to provide information and propaganda to help people understand the Government's policies and the timeline for stopping 2G services on September 15, 2024 so that people can promptly switch to 4G devices.

Viettel supports customers up to 50% when buying Smartphones.

Along with that, Viettel Nghe An has proactively prepared resources in terms of network resources and human resources. Accordingly, Viettel Nghe An will invest in increasing nearly 200 4G station locations in 2024 so that 4G coverage is equal to 2G.

Since the beginning of 2024, Viettel has supported the conversion of more than 100,000 phones from 2G to 4G for Nghe An residents. Up to now, the rate of 4G phone usage of Viettel customers in Nghe An accounts for approximately 90% and is expected to increase rapidly in the near future.

These activities not only facilitate people but also contribute to supporting localities in improving digital transformation indicators.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dien - Vice Chairman of Tay Hieu Commune People's Committee, Thai Hoa Town, said: "Regarding the policy of converting from 2G to 4G, it is very convenient to use advanced service technologies. In order to coordinate the implementation of the State's policy, the locality has actively promoted and mobilized people who have not yet converted to coordinate with Viettel staff to implement. At the same time, Viettel has been very active in accompanying the locality to support people such as free installation, preferential cheap phones... and enthusiastic instructions for each person to implement. In addition, for customers with difficult travel conditions, Viettel staff also come to their homes to support.

In order to accelerate the goal according to the Government's policy, Viettel strengthens support policies to facilitate people to make the transition to 4G.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Tinh - Deputy General Director of Viettel Telecom, in order to achieve the rate of 2G users below 5% by September 2024, as a basis for turning off 2G waves, Viettel network is increasing 4G coverage, bringing prices down to very low levels, suitable for customers' payment needs; at the same time, supporting 50% of the device price for customers switching from 2G to 4G, providing the market with a line of low-cost smartphones (about more than 1 million VND).

With synchronous solutions, Viettel strives to effectively implement the mobile technology conversion from 2G to 4G/5G, which will contribute to improving the province's digital infrastructure and digital transformation index, supporting people, especially those in remote areas; at the same time, promoting the fourth industrial revolution, helping people access public services and transactions on the network environment at high speed./.
