The Ha Tinh Provincial Police announced that they have initiated criminal proceedings, indicted the suspects, and temporarily detained three individuals involved in the case of a son who nearly burned his father alive due to a land dispute.

The defendants include Phan Huy Viet (born in 1992, son of Phan Huy Tuan), Huynh Thi Kim Sang (born in 1965, wife of Mr. Tuan), and Le Thi Son (born in 1991, Viet's girlfriend) for the crime of murder.

According to the investigation documents, Ms. Huynh Thi Kim Sang and Mr. Phan Huy Tuan are husband and wife, and have lived in Can Tho for over 30 years.

Since the couple decided to move back to their hometown in An Loc village, Thach Chau commune (Loc Ha district, Ha Tinh province), family conflicts began to arise when the more than 1,400m2 garden left by Mr. Tuan's parents was divided into three parts by his paternal siblings: one part for ancestral worship, one part belonging to Mr. Tuan's older brother, and the remaining part belonging to Mr. Tuan.

Dissatisfied with the inherited garden and the cost of transferring the land title, Mrs. Sang called her son, Phan Huy Viet, to help her deal with her husband's siblings.

Following his mother's advice, Viet quickly returned to his hometown with his girlfriend, Le Thi Son. The three of them sat down to discuss and prepare weapons beforehand, including knives, chains, and bottles of gasoline.

On June 10th, residents of An Loc village (Thach Chau commune) heard cries for help coming from the house of Mr. Phan Huy Tuan (commonly known as Ty). When the villagers rushed to the scene, they found Mr. Ty being doused with gasoline by Viet.

Seeing this, a man named Bac rushed in to intervene, but Viet used a flamethrower to shoot at him, causing minor burns. He was then taken to the hospital by local residents.

After chasing away a resident who tried to intervene, Viet went back into the house and poured gasoline on his father, intending to burn him alive. Fortunately, authorities, having received a tip from residents, arrived in time to rescue him and take Mr. Tuan to the hospital.

A man named Bac was injured by a fire attack from Viet and is currently receiving treatment in Hanoi.

What is even more noteworthy is that since the decision to initiate criminal proceedings and indict the suspects, the residents of An Loc village have been filled with sorrow. Many believe that greed alone caused the separation of husbands, wives, and children, and that a dispute over inheritance led to three members of the same family being imprisoned.
