While catching oysters on Chap Cha Lake, many people in Gia Tinh Village (Son Trach Commune, Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province) have discovered oysters with pearls. However, a pearl as large as 100 grams, shaped like a meditating statue of Bodhisattva Guanyin like the couple Binh and Cuc, has never been seen before.

Strange story in the "barn" of boys

The good fortune of Mr. Tran Duc Binh and Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc became the topic of discussion among the people of Gia Tinh village and the surrounding area. Indeed, it is rare for people to have the opportunity to admire such a large and uniquely shaped natural pearl. But for Mr. Tran Xuan Tu - Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Son Trach commune, a resident of Gia Tinh village, this strange story is completely explainable.

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Tu said: Chap Cha Lake has a lot of oysters growing. For local people, this lake with a surface area of just over 1 hectare and a muddy bottom is truly a "oyster barn". As for the reason why oysters naturally live in the lake with pearls, Mr. Tu explained that it may be because the bottom of the lake contains a lot of reddish-brown feralite rock. The natural erosion of the rock in the water, combined with the habits of the oysters, has led to the accumulation of pearls over time.

Mr. Tran Thong, the contractor of this lake for fish farming, revealed: Chap Cha Lake is actually an irrigation lake created by the locals. Initially, this lake was built to block Chap Cha stream, storing water for irrigation of the rice fields in the village. What Mr. Thong found strange was that there were many lakes around the area (even natural lakes, clean water, thick mud layer) but mussels rarely grew. While at Chap Cha Lake, Mr. Thong had never raised mussels, the number of this species was extremely large. So much so that the contractor of this lake did not hesitate to allow people to go down to the lake to catch mussels for daily food. That is also the reason why many people have discovered pearl-containing mussels.

According to the villagers, the number of small pearls "harvested" from Chap Cha lake oysters is countless. However, before Mr. Binh and Ms. Cuc, the most valuable pearl belonged to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung (from Gia Tinh village). Not long ago, Mr. Hung caught oysters from Chap Cha lake to use as a snack. When he dissected the oyster, he discovered a pale purple-pink pearl. This pearl also weighed approximately 100 grams. However, at that time, this story did not cause much of a stir because the pearl was shaped like a cauliflower. Talking to reporters, Mr. Binh said that someone had offered to pay nearly 10 million VND for this pearl. But because he wanted to keep it as a souvenir, he refused.

"God's gift" for poor couple

Chap Cha Lake - the pearl oyster "barn" where many rare pearls have been discovered

The pearl farm named Chap Cha Lake only became famous after Mr. Binh and his wife, Ms. Cuc, discovered a special pearl shaped like a statue of Buddha Quan Am meditating.

According to Ms. Cuc, her husband caught a large oyster weighing about 0.5 kg on September 11. After a day of soaking the oyster to release dirt, Mr. Binh brought the oyster to prepare a dish and discovered a large pearl. After cleaning it and looking at it, he was extremely surprised by the very special "natural" shape of the pearl.

The news that Mr. Binh and Ms. Cuc owned the precious pearl quickly spread. On September 12 alone, hundreds of people came to the family, asking to admire the precious pearl. Many people affirmed that this precious pearl shaped like the Bodhisattva Guanyin was a rare good omen. Mr. Binh and Ms. Cuc's family lived a gentle and virtuous life, so they were "given by heaven".

Not too heavy on spirituality, but Mr. Binh and Ms. Cuc also cherished the precious gem. Through observation, we noticed that the color of this gem was quite similar to Mr. Hung's gem, also purple-pink, slightly pale. The gem was about 4cm high.

The rather special information that Mr. Binh and Ms. Cuc provided to the reporter was that on September 12, a stranger came and offered to buy the precious pearl for 4 million VND. However, Mr. Binh firmly refused. Just one day later, the stranger appeared again and raised the price of the rare pearl to 10 million VND. Given the circumstances of Mr. Binh and Ms. Cuc, 10 million VND is not a small amount of money. Ms. Cuc was hesitant but still decided to refuse.

Sharing with the writer, Ms. Cuc confided: “With 10 million VND, I can buy more furniture and repair the dilapidated house. But I think that such a rare pearl is a good omen for my family. Therefore, I want to keep the pearl as a souvenir.” Hopefully, this decision will bring good luck to this poor couple from Quang Nam.
