Djokovic sets two records by winning the Miami Open.
Defeating Kei Nishikori 2-0 to successfully defend his title in Miami allowed Novak Djokovic to simultaneously surpass Nadal and Federer, setting two impressive records.
As expected, Djokovic, in his current undefeated form, had little difficulty defeating Nishikori in two sets with a score of 6-3 in just 75 minutes in the final of this year's Miami Open at Crandon Park. This was Nole's seventh victory in nine encounters with the Japanese opponent.
In this match, Djokovic lost a total of two breaks (both in the first set). However, the resilience of the world number one helped Nole overcome the difficulties and successfully assert his superior class, leading him to his sixth victory against Nishikori since the shocking loss in the 2014 US Open semi-final.

Thus, Djokovic has won the Miami Open for the sixth time in his career and the third consecutive time, equaling the record of titles won by his American compatriot Andre Agassi.
More importantly, winning his second Masters 1000 tournament of the year allowed Nole to simultaneously set two new records previously held by his two great rivals, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
Djokovic has surpassed Nadal to become the male tennis player with the most Masters 1000 titles in history, having lifted this trophy 28 times.
With over $1 million in prize money from winning this year's Miami Open, the world number one Serbian tennis player has also surpassed Roger Federer to become the highest-earning tennis player in history with an impressive figure of $98.4 million.
Speaking after his memorable final at the 2016 Miami Open, Djokovic said: "Nishikori played a great match and gave me a lot of trouble in the first set. His return of serve has improved a lot since we last met. Every encounter with Nishikori is a great experience. Thank you to the organizers, the fans, and the referees for helping me win the championship today."

Thus, the Miami Open was Djokovic's fourth title of the 2016 season, following the Qatar Open, the Australian Open, and the Indian Wells Masters.
Meanwhile, despite losing to Djokovic and having to settle for second place in Miami, Nishikori didn't feel too upset:
"Well played, Novak. I hope I can meet you next time. It was a tough match, as always, but playing against Djokovic is always a great challenge for me. I always love coming back to Miami to play. Thank you to my team. I hope to win a Masters title in the near future."
